Terrified: Feminine Issues after VSG (Biopsy at 9am tomorrow)

I know a lot of us have issues with out periods due to weight loss. I went to my OB for period issues. I was spotting for a full week before my cycle, having super heavy long periods and sometimes having two a month. I figured I get it checked out before my TT as to avoid any new scars. The ultrasound tech said it looked good so I moved along my merry way. Well I get a text on my way to a plastics follow up apt from one of my employees that My OBs office need to talk to me, its an emergency. They say they have been trying to call since the 6th. I never use the house phone or check the messages. My uterus walls are thickened and thats a concern so I go in for a biopsy to test hormone levels and rule out cancer. Im freaking out. The more I research the scarier it is. I want to believe that its just the weight loss ******g with my hormones levels (they say its a very real option)…. any one have an experience like this? Im totally freaking out…...

Yikes, Woman! I think I'd be freaking out too! Take a deep bath and try to relax... RIGHT! Ok, so there's nothing you can do, even if it IS cancer. So, there's no need to be stressing over it at this point. I had lung cancer a little over two years ago. Before my dx, they found a "shadow" on my lung. I knew it was cancer. I totally flipped out. Read everything I could, bought books, etc. When they finally dx'd cancer, I collapsed in tears... I was actually RELIEVED to have a dx! After I KNEW what I was dealing with, I could wrap my head around it and start working to kick that **** in the ass!!

Maybe that doesn't help, but dammit, girl, I tried!! I'll be thinking of you and sending healing thoughts!

Oh Jenn, I'm sorry for your scare!  I had a uterine biopsy, very last second, just a few months ago and fainted in the office.  I never had children and I don't know if that makes any difference....but the pain and shock caused me to pass out cold on the table. I was extremely nauseaus and dizzy for a day afterwards.  If possible, go with somebody to drive you home.

I hope everything works out for the better...I'll add you to my prayers tonight.

You may want to ask for a pain killer or anesthetic...I didn't get one, they just announced that they're going for biospy while between my legs and told to "paint like in labor"....I did and then slowly woke up to panicked nurses and a doctor yelling for smelling salts.

Don't be too worried. i have having the same problems about a year ago when i lost 60 pounds rapidly on a shake diet. i was skipping a month then having 2 periods in 1 month then spotting or having heavy bleeding with clots that lasted a couple weeks. i was scared so i went to OB/GYN., they had me get an ultrasound. they said that the lining of my uterus was unusually thick and looked like it wasnt shedding correctly which means i have endometriosis. so you could have endometriosis. but im glad they're gonna rule out cancer. i'm sure it's nothing, don't stress about it

Jenn,

You will be ok.  Wierd coincidence....my wife had the exact same thing (thickened walls) and she had to go in for the biopsy last Friday.  The doc said that they do a lot of these and it is almost always "just to be sure".  We are still waiting on results but they certainly gave us the impression that it is a common thing to happen and get checked out.

My wife has had 1 baby (4 years ago) and they said its more common for mothers.   The thickness of the uterine wall can also vary quite a bit during your cycle....if they did the ultrasound towards the end....it is definitely going to be thicker because there is more "stuff" in there.

Oh just FYI.....my wife said the biopsy was uncomfortable but not overly painful but they did give her some IV drugs to take the edge off.  You may or may not want them.  She was sore for about 36 hours afterwards but afterwards felt competely fine after that.  Because of the drugs they needed someone to go with her...you probably will need that too (someone to drive you home after).  The whole thing took about 45-50 mins.

Sorry if it sounds wierd for a guy talking about this stuff - I just got a crash course on it in the past two weeks myself.  You will be fine!  Good luck.

Oh Jenn
I am sorry for to hear about your scarey issue right now. I am also praying for you.
I couldnt imagine what you are going through right now.

I remember when i had my hystrectomy and my periods were off...I had a fibroid the
size of a grapefruit.   So I allowed them to take my uterus but I still have my eggs.

I just hope and pray its not cancer.  Please drink alkaline water.  Cancer cannot live
in alkaline enviroment.  all of our water is acid.  This wont be a cure, but it will help.

Please keep us posted honey....   I too am worried about you....  like everyone else.

Blessings....

Don't blame you for being frightened as the unknown is always scary. Hope the procedure goes well and you get a good result. I really do think there is a very good chance that its nothing more than hormones and such causing changes due to weight loss. I know I've had some night sweats and stuff that I think comes from that.

Anyway, we are all thinking of you and pulling for you and hope you will let us know how it goes. And while it may not be much comfort, my mom had uterine cancer at least 20 years ago and has had no reocurrance.  But I just have a feeling you don't have it.   Diane

Did the heavy periods start after your weight loss or before?

I will be thinking of you girly- I understand how scary it must be, but you will be ok.. Hormones are likely the problem, and if it is more serious, nothing can be gained from freaking out now.. Big hugs!!

I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!
