Best thing I've ever done in my life. My oppinion for you since you have a lower starting weight is to go with VSG. Of corse this is my oppinion and you'll get plenty. If you have been on both forums and have read up on both surgerys you should know that the malobsorbtion of vitamins is for life with the RNY and can cause issues later down the road. There is plenty more info beside this but thats something that scared me.

I have officially made my decision to go with VSG. All the negative feedback about the RNY is tooo scary for me. Thank you, I appreciate your opinions :-) Congrats to you!

You aren't going to find many folks here unhappy with their sleeves.  We love our sleeves!  I think most of us feel as if we are getting what we need from it -- restriction so that we can't overeat -- but not what we don't -- malabsorption.  I take too many meds to risk malabsorption for the rest of my life.

The only thing I don't like (and someone above mentioned this), is that occasionally I would enjoy a really good pig-out.  Can't do it!  Well, helloooo ... that's what got me fat in the first place!!  So I don't REALLY wish I could do that.

And as someone else said, I only wish I had had my sleeve years ago, before I had completely ruined my body from 30 years of morbid obesity.

But also, the sleeve is just a tool.  It is not going to lose your weight for you by magic.  By the amount of restriction we have, it is a GREAT tool, because we can't pig out, but if I set my mind to it and eat garbage, I can still eat too many calories and gain weight.  That is how I put back on the 20 pounds I am now trying to shift again.  But now, sleeved, I actually have a really really good chance of being able to lose those pounds again and keeping them off ... if I eat sensibly and stay away from garbage food most of the time.

Best wishes on your journey!

I just had to comment on the "pig out" part of your post. When I had my band, I used to feel that way, that I would LOVE to be able to just eat like I used to once in a while. When my band came out and I was cleared to eat normally, I did just that, and let me tell you I just sat in the car on the way home and cried. I felt horrible, I was so overstuffed, uncomfortable and unhappy. I could not believe that I used to eat myself into that state ALL the time before surgery, and I was kind of happy that I was able to feel it again after years of not doing it just b/c I know now that I NEVER want to feel that way again.

I think we forget just how crappy overeating can (and does) make you feel, the food might taste good going down but the toll it takes on the body afterwards is horrible and I am glad I can no longer do it to myself.

Anyway, I just wanted to pipe in with the experience of someone who WAS able to go back to "normal" eating, and was not happy with the outcome.

Hey, Rosebud!  Good to see you back!  Yeah, I still hang out here; afraid not to, ha ha.  Come over to the VSG maintenance board, too.  Tell us what you are up to!

I did not know there was a VSG maintenance board.  What a great idea!  Thanks for telling me.  I'll hop right on over.
