How long to crush pills?

The doc sent me home on dilauted (sp?) for pain, he didn't say I had to crush them but the nurse urged me to before I left. I am pretty much down to only taking them at night for sleep, but I am pretty sick of crushing the pills, especially since they are so tiny.

I will be a week out on monday, I would love to hear about your experiences with pills this far out!

I never crushed my dilaudid...They are really tiny. Should go down fine. They were giving me Tylenol 4's  in the hospital whole and was fine.

I was on normal pills for pain in the hospital once the IV was removed with no problems. I think they mentioned that they could be crushed or dissolved if needed but it was never an issue with me.

I was able to take pills from the very beginning and haven't had any problems.

I have some extended release caplets that I think aren't staying in my stomach long enough, based on the withdrawal symptoms I'm having... :(

My bariatric RN said if the pills were smaller than an M&M (candy) then they're safe to swallow.  Any larger, she advised to crush.  I got lucky!

My paperwork from my surgeon says that if you are on any ER pills to call your doctor and see if their is another not-ER form that they can perscribe for you, so I guess it can be an issue.

I was allowed to have small pills from the day I came home from the hospital. The bigger pills like vitamins I needed chewables.
