Leaks????
Please find a more experienced surgeon... Someone with experience in doing sleeve and DS because the DS is a difficult surgery. Try really hard to find a skilled surgeon that has an area of expertise in the Ds and sleeve. I wouldnt even consider surgery unless the surgeon has an area of expertise in DS and sleeve, never. Talk your time and do tons of research on your Surgeon.
I have seen a few other surgeons mention this, and no way in hell I woild agree to being revised to RNY. I'm not sure if this is the easiest solution for drs that haven't done a lot of sleeves, but I would check around, see if you could find one with more sleeve experience and know how to handle a leak if one occurs. Good luck!
Run....don't walk !!!!!
You are VERY WRONG to think the VSG is a simple procedure..... It's a non standardized procedure and takes skill and experience to cut and shape an effective proper sleeve for function, results and long term effectiveness.
Converting to RNY for a leak is a new one to me.....I do know that most leaks take a long time to heal properly.
Sorry... but you need to find a different surgeon.......

Thank you everyone for your responses. Everyone had great responses and really gave me alot to think about. I am going to the support group meeting tonight and will speak to the other doctor there to make sure I understood him right yesterday. I never want to be converted to RNY so I was so happy when this office offered this alternative because I almost had RNY back in March but I lost my insurance which I think of as devine intervention now because it led me to the sleeve. I am so close again and I hate for anything to derail that. Also there is another Dr. in the practice that just recently joined this practice and I believe he did VSG at his old practice maybe that's why my surgeon's office started offering VSG. Maybe just switching to the other surgeon and not a whole new practice might work so I don't have to start all over again. I'll find out tonight at the support group. Thanks, Kerry
As a healthcare professional and a WLS patient, I have to agree with everyone else here...RUN!!! and Run fast. When I read what you wrote, I felt like that Dr. told you that in the hope that you would believe him and, by agreeing to what he says, you give him permission to give you an RNY in the end. I had chills!! Not all Dr's are ethical, unfortunately. I just would hate to see you go through with this surgeon and wake up with an RNY because he "said" you had a leak so he had to do an RNY. No way, no how is that right. That was my immediate thought. I can't tell you exactly why I had that thought, but I just didn't like it at all. Best of luck to you in your decision. I know money can be a real issue and does many times dictate the road we take. It did for me, but I was very fortunate that I was able to get the best surgeon with my insurance. He has done thousands before me with a 0.1% complication rate. Please step back and really research your options. If it comes down to it and it delays you a few months to make a change, the delay is far better than being stuck with a surgery or a complication that leaves you with less than desirable results.
I had surgery July 13th and I have a leak. I have been pretty sick from it and have to be fed though a an IV basicly right now. My Dr. did some surgery to try to correct the problem. We are waiting for the leak to heal.
My Dr. never once said anything about converting to RNY. I have never read on here anyone saying their Dr. has even suggested that.
I am with everyone else. I would have a Dr. that has done more sleeves. My Dr. had done many of them and I still had an issue. This is not a small surgery to be taken lightly. Just my opinion.
