Desperate Dietary Measures
This morning I started thinking of all the diets that I tried over the years, for some strange reason.
My top 2 are:
In high school I was 30#s over-weight(kiss of death). I ate nothing but black coffee and air popped unsalted popcorn for a week. I lost 20 pounds and PASSED OUT. The weigh came back shortly after I came to
.
In December (before my surgery was approved) I spoke to a Doc (I used that term loosely) about WIRING MY MOUTH SHUT
. The worst part is that I spent 2 days deliberating, because I would have to carry a pair of pliers everywhere in the event I was in an accident etc...live saving measure NOT!!! My surgery was approved about 2 weeks later.
BTW every time someone ask about me having the Sleeve and it being "risky", I tell them about the mouth wiring.
I know (hope) I am not the only one...What was the worst that you tried or considered?

Great topic! :)
When I was in high school I tried some diet where you ate nothing but fruit the first day, except no bananas. It threw my blood sugar off so badly that I barfed watermelon like there was no tomorrow. I didn't ea****ermelon for almost ten years. I didn't make it to the second day of the diet. lol

Fay,
I Dreamed of having my mouth wired shut but never did anything abiut it.
Before the VSG I lost the most weight on the Atkins diet. It was great, I lost 55 pounds but got bored, started eating carbs again and regained 75 pounds.
I'm 2 years post-op and maintaining at my goal weight without a lot of effort. Losing 100% of my excess weight and keeping it off would not have been possible for me without the sleeve.
Continued success,
George

In college, a friend and I "fasted" on black coffee and diet coke ... until I got dizzy and very nearly passed out in the college bathroom... conking my head against that metal door must have knocked a little sense into me as I quit the "fast" that day. (BTW, lost 23 pounds in those two weeks... weight loss lasted less than a week once I started eating again)
Also as a teen (with my parents no less!) went on the so-called "Mayo Clinic" diet with bacon and eggs for breakfast, chicken and salad for lunch and steak and salad for dinner... with of course the ubiquitous half grapefruit or glass of grapefruit juice at each meal. It was delicious and we each lost more than 20 pound in about 2.5 weeks... again, didn't last once we started eating "normally." (Full disclosure ... I don't think I have ever eaten normally in my whole life)
