struggling with my protein drinks...
Definitely interested to see if any vets have advice!

I pour an adtkins protein shake over a full glass of ice and sip sip sip as long as I can tolerate it. The ice melts and thins it out a bit, but I usually only get about half a shake in an hour - 2 hour period. I'm not a big fan of the shakes from my Docs office... And I haven't tried the GNC or powder mixes yet...

According to my Doc's recommended protein (Metagenics) I am supposed to mix one scoop with 4 oz. Which is too thick! I have to mix one scoop with 12 oz with a ton of ice. It is very thin... but that is about the only way I can tolerate. I have tried mixing a multitude of other ways but if thick in any way at all I get nauseated and sometimes do vomit (unpleasant!!)
I did order Nectar from www.mybariatricpantry.com in the sampler pack. i am unsure about the quality of this .... however get 23 gms of protein in one scoop... 100 calories. 0 sugar. I mix one scoop with water in a blender ball from GNC with ice. I can get this down quite easily. The flavors are interesting. Roadside Lemonade, Fuzzy Naval, Green Apple, Grapefruit. I have enjoyed them.
One thing I have noticed is that I seem to salivate ALOT. This is very weird? Anyone else?
I also feel that I have lost the sensation of being full. It seems that most of the time that I notice too late... then I end up feeling miserable from nausea. I am hoping that this comes around!
I haven't had any ill effects from the protein drink I use. It's called Unjury and I mix it with 8 oz skim milk. It takes like chocolate milk. It's not grainy or thick and it goes down easily in a few minutes. I don't like it to last because I like it cold. Unjury also has unflavored mix that can go in anything - soup, V8, etc. The drink with the skim milk gives me 28 grams of protein.
Good luck all!

Some ideas for you. Try warm vs cold. I find something at about 90 to 100 degrees goes down much easier. Instead of protien drinks, get beneprotein or unflavored whey protien and add to broth or your favorite soup so your not stuck with the sweet tasting shakes all the time.
I have no idea why I can get so much down right now but I can.
hang in there.
