Total emotional eating :-(

So I had a rough day... the icing on the top came from my soon to be ex husband who managed to keep me on "high alert" for hours... long story... don't want to get into it...

BUT I totally succumbed to emotional eating... carbs of course.  I did everything I could to stave it off... even made those protein pancakes... but I still ended up eating cookies and gold fish :-(

This seems to happen to me every few weeks for one reason or another.  I just don't know how to get past it....

I mean, I recognize it, even as I do it... which is better than I was a year or so ago... but I just can't seem to stop it sometimes once it's triggered :-(

Therapy has helped me - a therapist experienced with bariatrics and eating disorders. With all you're going through, if it's a possibility for you, you might consider it.

I still struggle with this some, although it's gotten much better the further out I am. I did seek therapy for this before surgery. However, I had A LOT of difficulty putting theory into practice. Now, it's much easier for me (can't say specifically why). One thing I do that I used to roll me eyes at before surgery is exercise almost every day. I'm not talking a stroll around the neighborhood. I'm talking something that will give you that endorphin rush. We use food to calm and soothe ourselves and feel better. Exercise can do that do, too. If you can get into a routine, then you'll go even when you're feeling crummy and want to turn to food. It has helped me so much!

I delt with these issues before I had surgery. One thing I've learned is that if you don't keep crap around, then you can't eat it. And also, I find I have more willpower to avoid eating out of emotions than stopping once I've begun.

You need a plan to deal with your emotions. Ask yourself if you're really hungry. Drink some water first. Take a walk or do something to distract yourself.

A lot of us got fat from being emotional eaters. If you don't get a handle on it now, you may find it very difficult to get to goal and/or maintain n

Hi ya!

Have you ever thought of going to OA?  ( PM me if you want to talk some more)
Also I agree with Alison, If you dont have it around the temptation will be less.
It doesnt mean you wont reach for something else...  but lets start there.
Get rid of those emotional binge foods...  What ever they are for you.
Your binge food may be different from my binge food.  What ever it is,  get rid of it.
Also, when you feel emotional, Can you leave the house and go do something like
be with friends, walk, bowling....something?  That may help.  Keeping the mind
busy helps with the emotional eating.

Mary
