Why do I read about more stalls and slow weight loss with the sleeve?  Is it known to stall out more and go slower than the other forms of wls ?

I think there are stalls with all of them.  I haven't had any stalls that have lasted very long... kinda like lulls while my body adjusts to the weight loss, but during those times I have found I lose inches.  :)

I don't know if stalls are only with the sleeve, but I would doubt it. I would think the body would need to stop and readjust itself after any WLS. As far as slow loss...it's a matter of perspective. I think people are under the impression they will wake up 40 lbs lighter! LOL I wouldn't be surprised if the average is more like 2-3 lbs/week if you polled everyone. Mine averaged 2 lbs/week and I made it to goal in 6.5 months. I NEVER would have gotten to my goal without the sleeve!

I don't think it's all that slow..the last 16 mths have whizzed by for me..and in the meantime i'm down 154 lbs so far..and still losing.

I had a two week stall at 3wks postop til 5 wks postop..and then lost continually until about 9mths postop where my body decided to stay where it was for a good 2-3 mths..but then i got right back to losing..

I have zero complaints..

You rock, Dawnie!I remember when you had only lost a 'skinny *****' and were now starting on her toddler :) Now you've lost  an 'average' ***** and just have to get rid of the infant :)

I honestly don't know if stalls and slow weight loss are more common with the sleeve.  I believe that overall weight loss in most studies is comparable to the RNY.

That being said, I think it is important to understand that this is a restriction only procedure, as is the lap band.  Surgeries that have a malabsorption component may have fewer stalls, I really don't know.  Certainly the DS is a more powerful surgery, and consistently shows greater weight loss overall than the VSG as a stand alone procedure.

I guess the other thing that I always find curious when people get concerned about stalls is that on any diet I've ever been on (and I've been on a lot of them, as I'm sure most people here have been), I've had stalls.  Always, always.  And I really didn't expect any different with the sleeve.  A low calorie, high protein, low carbohydrate diet is the same regardless of the method, right?

The reason I was interested in the sleeve was the assistance in sticking with the diet due to restriction and possible ghrelin reduction, and my hope that those factors will help me maintain as well.  The surgery isn't magic--so of course our bodies lose weight the way they always have--a little bit at a time, up a little, down a little more, etc.

I don't know if sleeve patients have bigger stalls, or that we are just more likely to talk about it !!!

I stalled out from week three to week six. Lost a total of one half pound in three weeks !!! But then, the next few weeks the pounds fell off again....

Every so often I stop losing weight for a week, or even two weeks, but it always picks right back up.

As I get further out, my weight loss has slowed some, and has done some odd things....right now (the last couple months) I lose weight almost every day or every other day - a couple ounces a day....to total a couple pounds in a week ! Then I put on a pound, spend the next week "struggling" to lose that pound, then lose that pound and another in like two or three days, and go back to the start again....

No reason for the pound on and pound off....it just is.....and I just keep my calories around the same, keep up my exercise, and keep doing what I'm doing....

I try not to worry too much about it. My surgeon says that I'm doing great, my metabolism has increased, I'm healthy and strong and feel years younger than my current 55 !!!!
