Slow Losers ((((HUGS)))))
Today is my 4 month surgiversary. Wow where did time go? It seems like it was just yesterday. I also go see my surgeon later today, so I hope she is more positive than I am at this point.
I am 51 pounds down (as of this hour-my weight seems to change by the hour!)..LOL.../For 3 seconds my scale said 180. I was going to take a pic and I get back on the scale and it said 182.0. Now it says 182.8!.
In amy ordinary situation I would be very happy bacause it used to take me about 6 months to lose 30 pounds and then I would'nt lose any more than that.
Now as a post op I follow the rules, drink my water, eat protein first, take vites, exercise, watch calories--blah,blah,blah. I stall around my monthly cycle for about 2 weeks, then lose 2 pounds week 3 and sometimes 4-5 the following week. My body is in this pattern. I am losing, but I see others that are down 60-70 pounds and it frankly ******g depresses me.
I will be at the dreaded 6 month mark in December. If I am losing slow now--what do I have to look forward to by then? I don't want to go down that old road of taking diet pills, but I don't want to be a year out still trying to get this weight off.
I'm rambling and complaining but for those that are working for every pound---I am right there with you!. I have no regrets about getting VSG. I just wish my body would cooperate.

Just wanted to send some love and tell you you aren't alone. I'm just a few days behind you and although I've lost 65lbs, 20 was before surgery and I have only lost 2 lbs in the last month. I've been at a stall for over 4 weeks.
Its frusterating seeing others lose more quickly, especially when you feel like you are sticking to the plan and doing what you are supposed to. But I just have to have faith that this new lifestyle will get us where we need to be if we follow it. Going back to the old habits (diet pills, not eating or drinking enough to lose the weight, no exercise) will just be counter-productive and possibly have us at a place in a few years, where we have a small tube of stomach, but a lot of weight gained back.....and I know you don't want that!!!! Stick it out, talk to your doc and Nutritionist and more than anything, stay positive and celebrate your successes. The more you stress over the numbers, the more your body feels the stress, and the less that scale will move! Remind yourself every day that its a long battle, not a quick fix and visualize yourself at that weight you want to be, crossing that finish line. So much of this battle is the mental one!!!
Good luck!

It sucks mightily. Really mightily but it's what we got. what i did was look up all the slow losers over time from the search engine. I read hundreds of posts. From responses to a message i would look at all the old messages of the folks who claimed they were slow losers. Here's what i found. Most of them were, especially in the first few months were we are told by conventional wisdom we will lose the most. here's what i also found, most of those real slow losers (not folks who had 100lbs to lose and thought they would lose it in 3 months) but the 6-10lb a month at the beginning losers got to goal inside a year. I.E. although they were slow they was a constant pattern to their loses. Made me feel better. Maybe it will you too. Hang in there.
We're pretty even in our progress. I know what you mean about seeing others' progress and feeling like yours is slow. BUT, importantly, some folks start off way heavier than we did. If you put that 51 pounds in proportional terms of your starting weight, it'd be like a 300 pound person losing 65 pounds. (Check out the lightweights board if you need validation of this way of looking at it)
Second, you are no longer obese (yay!), so you have already achieved a major health goal and you are more than half way to your weight goal. My doctor says his patients usually are in their losing phase for a year. So that means you have another eight months to lose less weight than you did in the first four months. Should be doable!
Finally, the way I look at it, I eat less than 1/3 of what I used to (my weight was fairly constant at a BMI of 35). How would it be possible for my new intake to be consistent with only a relatively small weight loss over the long run?? Eventually, assuming I don't start eating a lot more than I do now, I must stablize at a substantially lower weight than I started or it'd violate the laws of physics.

Slow and steady wins the race. I've never had one of those miraculous 20 lb months, but I am actually losing more quickly at 6 months out than I did the first three months.
Are you counting carbs? How many calories are you eating? If you're under 40 carbs and under 800 calories, you WILL lose the weight.
Also: time to consider a new scale.
Hugs to you.

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22
175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012
Let's look at this logically..... for me, I lost 34 pounds in the six months before surgey; lo cal/lo carb -- and I was thrilled ! I had surgery January 24th -- 8 and a half months ago. Since surgery I've lost another 82 pounds in 8 months. Do I wish that I had lost more ?! Sure.
But I'm in this for a lifestyle change, a change for a life time. This isn't a race for me. It's about making positive changes, and keep making them....
I am still losing weight. Month 6 to 7 was tough. Only lost 4 pounds that month -- and struggled to do that ! But month 7 to 8 I lost 8 pounds !!! I am proud of every darned ounce I lose, and celebrate each half pound as a victory !!! I am happy, healthy, and able to do things I only dreamed about just over a year ago.
Yes the scale doesn't always move....and sometimes it actually goes up -- and I can't figure out why....so I just keep doing what I'm doing. I eat healthfully, limit my carbs in a big way; eat protein first and foremost. Snacks are high protein with some vegies (today, hummus with raw mushrooms and cucumber slices).
No one said it was going to be easy, but I can say that it is totally worth it ! I'm wearing a size 16 petite in regular ladies clothing, and an XL shirt. I started at a size 28 pants in womans sizes and a 3X shirt. I no longer need a wide width shoe; I can fit into resturant booths; I can cross my legs, I shop in regular stores. I'm not the fattest person in a group.
I AM LIVING LIFE.
Take it easy. It happens one ounce at a time, one pound a week, or even a month...but IT WILL HAPPEN !

You guys are right. Its my special time Of the month and I think my hormones are getting to me.
I stay wayyyyyy under 40 grams of carbs and right at 800-900cals. Also upped protein to 80 grams last week and it worked.

I'm right there with you, this week will make 7 weeks, and I'm still right at 20 lbs total, and 15 of them were in the first 10 days, I stalled for 4 weeks then lost 5 lbs in two now I haven't lost in another 2 weeks so hopefully my pattern won't be stalling for 4 months to lose 5 lbs then stall again, but I'm keeping up with my plan and praying I'll start losing again, even 2-3 lbs a week would thrill me!
