I loved the post about "yay starting my pre-op diet tomorrow". I love thinking back to that day when I was full of hope and excitement.  I am coming up 2 years in January and I havn't lost since October 2010. I only made it to 52 pounds and I'd love to know how to kick start this weight loss again. My restriction is great and I don't have an insulin resistance. My body just seems to hate me.  I ended up very iron deficiant which really sucked. I know there has to be others like me. Others that didn't reach their goal and picked up their socks and figured it out. I want to know how. I want to smile again. I have gained almost 13 pounds and I don't want it to get anymore out of control. Please help!

It is almost a year for me and I have only lost about 40#.  No gain, though.  I am 59.  Have been using Bowflex 3x/wk  since June and riding bike on alternate days.  I do hade insulin-dependent (type 1) diabetes.  What gives?  I don't know.  Some days bummed, some days not.

I've read on here that people recommend to go back to the basics in a situation like yours. Some do the 5 day pouch test (I've heard of it, but not really sure how that works - do a search to find out more). Do you track your intake? Maybe you are eating too many carbs or calories? I'd try going back to the 60-80 protein, less than 40 carbs and plenty of fluids for a while and see if it kick starts the weight loss.

What do you eat each day?  We can't offer advice if we don't know what your eating plan looks like, dear :-)

I had surgery in May 08.  I have since gained 12 lbs.  I am eating carbs galore...AND SWEETS ..I KNOW!  It's just SO damn hard to get started again.  I wish I had something positive to say to you.  I had originally lost over 100 lbs...the first 2 yrs I kept if off.  I am interested to hear from someone who is years past their surgery.  I feel so depressed.  I feel like my weight is going backwards to pre-surgery.  I KNOW WHAT TO DO...IT'S JUST GETTING STARTED that seems impossible for me.  Good luck to you.  Believe me, I understand what you are going thru.

HUGS & LUVZ TO YOU!  Donna

I'm more than 2 years post-op and have lost 100% of my excess weight and have been able to keep it off without a lot of effort.

My weight loss slowed down at 6 months post-op. I reviewed what I was eating and realized the bulk of my protein was coming from soft sources like protein shakes, cheese, Greek yogurt, beans.

I changed to dense protein, mainly tender beef and seafood, and saw my weight loss resume and felt a lot of restriction. Dense protein fills you up with a small amount and keeps you full longer.

Limiting my carbs to less than 40 grams per day was also instrumental for my continued weight loss. When my carbs got too high my weight loss slowed.

I followed the plan my doctor gave me and lost 100% of my excess weight and have kept it off.

1. Eat 600-800 calories per day when losing weight  and 1,200 calories to maintain
2. Limit carbs to less than 40 grams per day
3. Eat 70-100 gram of protein daily
4. Minimum 64 oz. liquids daily
5. Regular exercise/physical activity
6. Track what you eat ( I use myfitnesspal.com to track calories, carbs, protein, etc.)

Review what you are eating and make appropriate adjustments. Cut out slider foods like bread, rice, potato, chips, carbs in general. You can eat slider foods all day long and feel no restriction.

If you're not losing weight you should monitor your calories, carbs and protein. Losing weight is a numbers game as much as anything else. Calories in have to be less than calories utilized for weight loss to occur.

Dense protein, limiting carbs and regular physical activity were responsible for me reaching my weight loss goal and maintaining.

Good luck,
George

Others have given great advice, so I'm just chiming in as a still-in-progress person, to post what your intake is- everything, cals, carbs, protein in grams a day.. if you have not been tracking- the best way is to track everything for a week.

Try VERY hard not to alter your normal intake from what you were eating (many of us, when forced to actually write down everything, measurements and all, tend to lighten up a little..) then look at where you are starting from.. then post that, and you may get some helpful tweaks if something is off on that side of the equation. The other thing, how are your labs & hormone panels? Thyroid?

But, first things first- where are you starting from, intake wise.. then look at where you need to go from there.

Hi  Nicki, I remember following you, and know that you always struggled to lose weight even when you were doing everything right, your body fought you the whole way...

recently I had regain and what i did was re do my program, what i found was by doing two weeks of liquids (not the 5 day pouch test) my sleeve shrunk back to almost too much restriction i was only able to drink half of a shake instead of a whole one...( I had pretty good restriction before starting).

After the two weeks i went  to 2 shakes and one meal a day then one shake and 3 meals to keep my protein number up and calories.. i kept drinking a little more each time til i could finally finish a whole one or i was too low on calories...

Its worked for me to take off all the regain, and i actually have dropped lower than i did the first time around..

I don't have the answer but i feel your pain.  I'm 3 months out and have only lost 16lbs.  I am doing the whole 600-800 cals 30-40 carbs thing plus working out.  by BMR is 1345 so according to my Dr i should be shedding like crazy and I am not insulin resistant or have any thyroid problem.  I've never been a slow loser and i lost 10lb in the week before surgery.  Mind you I am a band to sleeve revision and I'm a lightweight I started 1t 88 but after 3 months I went to see a Bariatric specialist and have decided to up my calories and carbs and see if that brings about any change. My body is just fighting me and i don't know why.  From another post on here it sees that even when you were on the losing phase you had to claw to every pound.  It's exhausting i know but I'm going to try this experiment because whatever honeymoon phase I'm experiencing I can do without. I will let you know how it works out.  I guess as in most things, one size doesn't fit all.  Good luck

I'm 18mths post op, after having lost 49.1kg (108lbs) I stalled, and am still just over halfway to goal. I've tried the going back to basics, lost 2kgs, then regained it. I'm yo-yoing the same 2kgs up and down and have been for a few months now. Right now I have a fair bit of emotional stress going on in my life and my doc seems to think this is playing a part, admittedly I am an emotional eater and if I stop to really look at it my diet differs from the meal plan set out for me.

I don't have any real advice, just wanted to tell you I feel your pain!
I believe it will all work out okay in the end.  If it's not okay, it's not the end.
