Calling all slow losers

Thought it would be nice if we all united! I'm 10 weeks out and have lost 26 lbs since surgery. I'm no longer upset by it, I'm embracing it I guess. I know I'm doing everything right so I'm going to take my 1-2lbs a week and try and be happy.

My question is for any vets who started off like this...Please tell me you went on to reach goal? I just know at this pace it is going to take me another year and a 1/2 to lose 80lbs, and I just want to assure that its doable!

I have recently (last week) started making sure I exercise more than just my exercise bike at least 4 times a week. I've taken a shine to Bob harper's Kettle Bell sculpting series, and Zumba. I've also made sure I get all my fluids in and that has helped. SO that combined with following the same plan I read on here 600-700 calories,

Yeah, I think I am a slow loser too. I had surgery on 7/7/11 and have lost 42. From Sept 13 until today to loose 14 pounds. Dont get me wrong, I am glad I loosing. I think it has something to do with your starting weight also, seems heavier you are faster you loose. I hope to loose another 40 or 50 pounds. Weighed in at 199 today

I am another slow loser. 6 weeks since surgery and I've only lost 16 pounds and nothing in the last 3 weeks! I should probably stay off the scale, but it does get frustrating after all I've put my body through for this! As long as I know the next 70 pounds will come off - even if that takes a year or a year and a half - I can live with that.

Oh Lord but it is slow.  My three month followup visit i had lost a grand total of 16lbs, in total.  I had a battery of tests done and there was no problem.  I didn't weigh for the first 3 months as i just figured if i did everything right it would come off.  It didn't.  Now i started at 188 and i was a band revision but still how can 600-800 cals and 30-40carbs translate to that loss over a 3 month period?  I don't know.  I would love to hear from any vets who started off slow and then caught up.  Problem is even when i track folks who think they are slow they are never as slow as me.  8lbs in the first 6 weeks.  Last week after my follow up i went to see a bariatric specialist who suggested i up my calories and protein and forget about carbs (i don't do any processed food) and since then i have lost 2lbs a day but I'm sorta waiting for the other shoe to drop.  don't know why but since i haven't been weighing maybe i lose really close together and then i stop.  Oh yeah i bought a scale.  Hope i don't go insane. I'm glad you found a way to embrace it because really there is nothing else to do but 1-2 lbs a week consistently sounds great to me at least it keeps going in the right direction.  One week i had gained 4 from the miserly 8 I'd lost in that period.  that actually was the catalyst for all the tests and seeing the Dr.

I am a year out from my surgery. The day of surgery I was 194, and it took me 6.5 months to get to 140. I lost several more within a couple of weeks of that. I am usually 134-136 and have easily maintained since June 1. My average loss for the 6.5 months was 2 lbs/day.

I also felt like it was taking a long time to lose at the beginning. You lose a bit, plateau a bit, lose a bit again, plateau again...It happens to most that way. Maybe to more, but not everyone weighs themselves as often, so maybe they don't realize it. I also had a spell in the spring where it took me 10 weeks to get out of the 150's. Once I did, my weight dropped pretty quickly and I finally got to my goal.

If you are following your plan, logging your food intake, you should lose. One thing that I discovered is that I seem to be very sensitive to sodium. Maybe I was and never knew it because I was obese? I try to keep tabs on it and if I gain a pound or two and cut back on the sodium, it comes right off.

Thank you so much for that Katie.  6.5 months seems like such a short time to have lost most of your excess, yet I'm sure to you it seemed to take forever, when you were living it.  speaking for myself being this slow my fear is that it will stop altogether.  I'm pretty much 100% compliant and i just can't understand what my body is doing.  i had the lousy band and i lost great on it.  But it is what it is and once it keeps going in the right direction consistently i can live with it.

You are right about when you are going thru it, it feels like it's taking so long.  Looking back, it FLEW by!  I can't believe in less than 2 weeks it will be a full year!

One thing that I think throws everyone off is that because it's WLS, they focus only on the scale...there are other ways of measuring success.  Losing inches, coming off meds for co-morbidities, doing things you never did because of your weight.  Your self-confidence will improve greatly, you will be happier, healthier.  There is a whole new life waiting for you!!!  Time to really start living!

The body is a mysterious thing!

I feel like I'm a relatively slow loser. I'm almost 5 months out and have lost about 54 pounds (44 since surgery), so post-surgery I'm averaging about 2 pounds a week. Lately less than that, but it's still coming off. I'm about 10 pounds from my first goal (top of normal BMI range), though, so I think I'm doing pretty good. It's WAY better than I ever did on Weigh****chers and my doctor is happy.

I know I'm losing less fast than some because I'm not terribly strict about carbs and I have a glass of wine each day. But I eat no more than a third of what I used to, so that's got to do something.

I figure the advantages of being a slow loser include less risk of gall bladder problems and more time for skin to contract. So far I have no saggy skin, except just a little bit of bat wings.

At 42 pounds down in 14 weeks of surgery, I at first felt discouraged when I'd read how people lost 40 pounds and such in a month.
On the other hand, that's 42 lbs. that are GONE and I feel great, have added more exercise (not that it doesn't hurt) including zumba twice a week which I absolutely love (it's the only exercise I do enjoy in fact though I also go for walks and do fast aquacizes twice a week).
My goal is to lose 100 pounds in a year and I really do hope I'll do it, but even if not quite, I know I will be a lot thinner (also a lot flappier!) and have way more energy in the months ahead and that is all good.
We all need to remember to go back to program, stay with the basics, keep active when we can and in the long run we'll all be so much better off than we were.
Slow and steady is a good way to win a race and also to lose weight. I don't know if anyone has done a study on it, but I'll just bet the slow losers who stick with it are among the least likely ever to regain.
Cheers all!

Well i'm discouraged and very unhappy because I think this may be all I lose (21lbs since surgery well actually 20 after today's weigh-in) . I am so pissed because in comparison to the things I ate pre-op I should be under 200 lbs. I would eat massive amounts of food at very sitting and now I eat about 10-12 oz of food a day and drink alot of water and get protein in. This is crazy. What if it doesn't work?
