I was wondering what the follow up schedule looks like after surgery.  Assuming everything goes as planned what generally is the time until your first post-op appt, and then the next ... etc... I was wondering because when I return to work I will need to take time off for these appts. Its funny because no one ever mentioned a tentative schedule after surgery and it just occured to me.... So any vets out there remember?

My surgery is Monday and my post-op appointment is 10 days later. The next appointment will be at 4-5 weeks out if everything goes well.

I was seen a week after surgery for followup and drain removal.  I believe I was seen again at one month out.  Then at 3 months I had a followup and bloodwork.  Same at six months.  At my six-month visit, they said to come back at my year anniversary, and then yearly visits with bloodwork after that.

I had a 2 week post-op, then every month after that until I moved away (total of 5 months).  I continued on with monthly telephone appointments since I was almost 3000 miles away until I moved back to the Bay Area and am back to my monthly in person visits.  While I had no complications, I was a very slow loser and my doctor wanted to see me on a regular basis to monitor my progress and be supportive.  He has always ended each visit with this statement "what can I do to help you and support you?"  He has always followed through with what I asked of him.

The follow up varies by surgeon and by patient.  I, for one, am very grateful that my surgeon was willing to and wanted to see me regularly as I believe that it has been a major part of my success thus far.
