Second Race Done-- 5 Miles and Climbing during my Turkey Trot!
Since I've started running for exercise and enjoyment (who knew?!) I've been trying to enter different races to challenge myself and get in some charity at the same time. On Thanksgiving morning at 8:00 am I ran in a 5 mile Turkey Trot race to benefit childhood cancer research.
My goal was to finish in 1:15:00 or less giving me 15 minutes per mile which is slower than I normally jog, but it's also 2 miles longer of a race than I've ever done in the past.
I did the race with a couple of friends from work and took three "power-walk" breaks where I stopped jogging to walk briskly for just a few minutes to recover before continuing on.
And wouldn't you know it, at the completion of the Turkey Trot I saw that my personal time was 1:07:41.
I am so proud of myself! Soooooo... 5 miles down and my next goal will be a 10K. After I can successfully do that I think I'll start training for a half marathon.
Hooray!

Awesome! I have been running too-NEVER in a million years did I think I would EVER like to run. The lovely weather here in South Dakota has curbed me to the treadmill for the winter-too dark, slick & cold now....brrrr.
I will aspire to a 5K this spring-you have given me a time to shoot for-thanks!
Continued success!!!
