Second Race Done-- 5 Miles and Climbing during my Turkey Trot!

Since I've started running for exercise and enjoyment (who knew?!) I've been trying to enter different races to challenge myself and get in some charity at the same time. On Thanksgiving morning at 8:00 am I ran in a 5 mile Turkey Trot race to benefit childhood cancer research.

My goal was to finish in 1:15:00 or less giving me 15 minutes per mile which is slower than I normally jog, but it's also 2 miles longer of a race than I've ever done in the past.

I did the race with a couple of friends from work and took three "power-walk" breaks where I stopped jogging to walk briskly for just a few minutes to recover before continuing on.

And wouldn't you know it, at the completion of the Turkey Trot I saw that my personal time was 1:07:41.

I am so proud of myself! Soooooo... 5 miles down and my next goal will be a 10K. After I can successfully do that I think I'll start training for a half marathon.

Hooray!

That's funny Jenn-- we can motivate each other. You want to get it together with not being so lazy (tho honestly you sure as hell look busy to me!) and I want to get it together and fit into some of those cute styles you show us in pictures... especially the hot boots!

You got it going on, girl!

Awesome! I have been running too-NEVER in a million years did I think I would EVER like to run. The lovely weather here in South Dakota has curbed me to the treadmill for the winter-too dark, slick & cold now....brrrr.

I will aspire to a 5K this spring-you have given me a time to shoot for-thanks!

Continued success!!!

Tina, I also am so excited to have discovered that I like it... so far we've had a mild autumn in NY except for a couple of snowy/rainy days. Lots of warm ones too though.

You go train for that 5K-- totally doable by the spring if you hit the treadmill like a rock star!
