Overnight after surgery?

I go in for my sleeve on Monday and I have been told that the doctor will decide if I should stay overnight or not.  It kinda seems from posts I've been reading that I should stay and not be sent home the same day.  I know I would prefer it.  Any opinions?
BTW, so excited it's finally happening.  Can't believe I am days not weeks away anymore!
Thanks

I had my surgery last Wednesday and I came home on Thursday. It just depends on how you feel. I am feeling pretty good just wait and see how you feel.

In my opinion, I would stay.  I was in on Wednesday and was supposed to leave on Thursday but ended up with low hemoglobin.  I left on Sunday.
Congratulations!!  yay!

I go in on Monday as well. I will have to stay overnight. I think that would be best to monitor you. But good luck with eveything.

My surgeon's group and their affiliated hospital is a Bariatric Center of Excellence - they require an overnight stay with a swallow study done the morning you are released.  They do this so that you can stay on heavy duty pain meds the first several hours, which, while not knocking you out completely, will allow you to become mobile very quickly, thus staring the process of getting rid of the C02 that they pump you full of.

My doctor keeps everyone in the hospital for two nights after the surgery.  I can't believe anyone is released the same day since you have to have the barium swallow study the next day to check for leaks.  And since you can't drink water until after the study you have to be on IV fluids.  In my case it's a good thing they kept me.  I was so nauseated I couldn't drink and they had to keep me on IV fluids longer than usual.  That much nausea isn't very usual though, I'm prone to nausea after surgery.

Some insurance companies (if you have insurance paying) require certain conditions, like outpatient surgery or one night in the hospital, in order to approve the surgery. I know my insurance approved one night but my surgeon said he and I will determine whether I should stay second night. He said it is much harder to get approval for two nights so perhaps it is something similiar for you.

Best wishes!!!
