Where do you buy your protein ?
I actually bought my protein powders from amazon, and ebay...whichever was the cheapest...I also bought the unjury chicken soup...haven't tried it yet....interested in the necter, but a serving is only 10 grams of protein...I guess that's ok if you aren't counting as main protein source....and using as your fluid intake....finding that the hardest....3 days post op and getting in all the fluids...I'm so full!!
good luck with your journey :)
good luck with your journey :)
I buy my Syntrax Nectar at Amazon. When I first had surgery, I used the Premiere protein ready to drink. It was easy, but more expensive than the powders.
Look for Protein Isolate which is absorbed better. The Muscle milks have a mixture of Protein concentrate and isolate....my trainer told me not to use it, but to stick with Syntrax.
Also, if you buy something at Costco and don't like it, their return policy is great. Just take it back.

I am scheduled for surgery on 1/23 and have been trying sample after sample. I honestly feel like I'm the only person on these boards who doesn't like Unjury Chicken Soup - I don't know why but it was horrible to me! I was excited to try it but it was very salty and too "brothy" tasting. I'm not a big broth drinker so that might be part of it. I love Unjury Strawberry mixed with milk and a little ice - yummy! The chocolate (both varieties) and vanilla are good, too, but I admit I mix a little sugar free syrup (hazelnut or vanilla) into them to hide the protein taste. I have also put chocolate and vanilla into coffee (cold with ice) and that is very good. I wasn't very happy with the unflavored but I think I might have needed to mix it with something that had a little more flavor - I used Sobe Lifewater and I don't think it completely masked it. I also only drink my shakes from a travel coffee mug, so I don't have to smell that smell :)
I just went on Chike's website and ordered their sample pack - $6.95 shipping/handling and the samples are free. Also, vitalady.com has TONS of samples! They are a little pricey, at $2.99/each, but the variety is amazing. I don't want to buy a two pound tub of something I don't like and don't have many options for stores around me so most of my shopping is online. I have also bought a lot of Unjury (my surgeon's office recommends it so it was the only one I looked at for awhile) on eBay - a lot of people sell their sample packs. Unjury sells a sampler pack, 2 of each flavor plus a thermometer and mixer, for $17.99.
I ordered samples from vitalady.com for Nectar since I want to try something less "shake-like". A lot of people say it's more like Kool-Aid than a shake so I thought it might go down a little easier after surgery. I have also read great reviews for BSN Lean Dessert proteins and vitalady has samples of those, too. My surgeon's office stresses whey or soy protein isolate be the first or second ingredient listed on the label.
Good luck on your journey! I am so very excited and now getting a little nervous!

I had the Sleeve and tried all the proteins that the dietician recomended and all were sub par. I found the AMP 60 Wheybolic Protein Chocolate Powder at GNC and used skim milk to mix. It by far is the best flavor I have found. Delicious. It is about 59 bucks for a large tub. I lost 53 pounds pre surgery on it and since August 18 2011 surgery date I have lost 68 lbs. I only use 1scoop per shake and use 2 to 3 shakes a day depending on the food intake. I use a Bariatric Advantage Complete Vitamin Since it is protein shake not a meal replacement. Good luck
