Kinda disappointed - 3 MO checkin
I think you're doing well. 6 lbs? Really? That could be clothes. I don't think you let anyone down! By feeling disappointed you are only hurting yourself. You have that rayional mind. You KNOW you are doing what you are supposed to be doing, you should be proud of all that you have accomplished so far.

How much did you lose post surgery????
Honestly, I can't believe he said that to you. Even if you lost 40 lbs in 3 months that's an average of 13 lbs a month, or 3 lbs a week! I suck at math, so my numbers might be wrong, but it looks like your current weight loss from your highest weight puts you at 45% loss in 12 weeks.
Ummm... in what effing world does that say failure????
Your doctor is wrong imo and doesn't understand the word "supportive."

I agree your doctor is supposed to support you in weight loss. I have not had my surgery yet but my doctor has said losing weight at the right pace will make it easier with toneing up and not having hanging skin. He also says that everyone takes to the surgery different waht might work for one will not work for all. Keep your chin up. You are going great.
Just to show you the difference in doctors, here's what mine wants.
* He wants me at a BMI under 30 (out of the obese and MO range)
* He want me at 50% of my total weight loss in 6 months
That's it. Any other goals set are mine to set. He does help with finding an approprate goal weight, but he also says that goal weights tend to change so much he prefers to give a maintenance weight range.
There's no time pressure other than the 50% in 6 months. I'm 4 1/2 months out and I have 1/2 lb to loss to reach that goal.
Very doable.
IMO, this is not a race.

You don't need to find your "rational mind" it was never lost. I think your doc needs to find his head.......oh wait.........here it is!..........it was up his ass! Lol! Look it is only 6lbs...you are doing great...sometimes docs say things to motivate/scare patients....not an effective technique IMO.
I am also about 3 months out. Surgery date was 12/19/11. I've lost about 45 pounds and 3 dress sizes. Like you I am down to a 18/20 and loving it. Have you noticed that your body is really shrinking and tightening up? This is a big question because muscle weighs more than fat - so sometimes you will not see the change on the scale - but instead see it in your clothes. I have a friend who also had the surgery (a week before mine) and has lost almost as much as me but has only gone down 1 dress size. All of our bodies are different - and all of us work our plans and use our tools a little different. The others are right - your doc should have supported you and encouraged you. Jot him a note or give him a call - I think he might appreciate knowing how huge an impact his words can have.
Keep doing a good job and shrinking down!!
See you on the losers bench!

You're doing great! I hear you on not meeting surgeon goals. My surgeon gave me a goal of 285 by next Wednesday (when I have my appointment) and I won't make that goal. :( I'm 294 today, and there is no way I'll lose 9 lbs in the next 6 days! BUT I am so pleased to be out of the 300s. I'm excited to go show and him my progress, even though I won't officially make his goal. I'm fortunate to have a surgeon with an excellent bedside manner. He really makes me feel like he is my partner in this journey and is very encouraging. I know not all surgeons (or even most) are like this. I'm so sorry that your surgeon made you feel like you might "fail" at this just due to being 6 lbs shy of a goal.
Hold your head high. Really - you are doing fantastic. Getting down on yourself won't do anything positive for your health. If you are following the program, you have nothing to feel bad about! Our bodies are so unique and so complicated. We can't just put calories in and calories out and expect to know exactly what we will lose. If that were true, stalls wouldn't happen.
Surgeon goals are nothing more than guidelines and yardsticks - because without them it's really hard to know if we are anywhere near what is "expected" for our weight loss. I think 6 lbs is so close that you should take it as a positive - you are on track! Heck, if you had exercised hard, then pooped, then got naked on the scale in the doctor's office - you might have made that magic number! LOL! But it wouldn't have meant you were any more successful that what you are right now.
Believe me when I say that you didn't let your surgeon down. Trust me, he isn't up at night worrying about those 6 lbs... I hope you aren't, either!
Keep it up!! You are doing a wonderful job with your sleeve!
