This is probably really stupid, but...

Surgery on Thursday...looking over my first 2 week diet so I can make a grocery list and it says I can have "cream soup made with milk & strained".  Does that mean any "cream of" soups?  Hey, I told you this is stupid, but I don't want to eat the wrong thing :)

I was actually told to avoid soups by my NUT, as they have a lot of volume, little protein, and usually empty calories (i.e. carb loaded).  My first two weeks I could have broths but most of my protein came from shakes at those times.  I used the broths more for starting scheduling habits and liquids.

During My first two weeks, a typical day would consist of A shake for breakfast, a shake for lunch, then dinner at Panera where I would have a bowl of Chicken noodel soup broth.  That would be 64 g of protein for the day (60 from shakes, 4 from broth).

My plan also says that I can have creamed soups as well. So, I emailed my surgeon and asked if it was okay to have cream of potatoe (since I was CRAVING it). She said that it may be too heavy, but I could give it a try. So, my dad made me some cream of potatoe soup and I pureed it really fine and added some chicken broth to make it thinner. Everything went well, and normally I LOVE it... but really didn't do anything for me.
I find that the RTD Premier Protein shakes are super filling because they are thicker, so that's what I've been sticking with. Yesterday, I had a little more soup just for a different flavor. If it makes you feel good, do it - maybe try to add some unflavored protein to get some proteins in.
Also, cream of broccolli may give you some gas, but right now it's trial and error. Just don't over do it. I never had any gas pains, even right after surgery - so I'd try just about anything that is ok'd by my surgeon.

I pureed my own lentil soup as well as beef stew and both of those worked great.

Yes, any cream of soup will do, but don't go crazy and buy a ton of it (I made this mistake) LOL One can lasted me like three days, and in the end I just didn't really like the taste of them anymore so they just ended up sitting on the self in my pantry until my husband took them to work for lunch.

I am allowed cream soup too. Cream of chicken strained is the best for me. Cream of tomato is good too. I use skim milk. I don't eat it for my main meal....just as a snack. Except if nausea sets it. Then I go back to my soup. I'm two weeks out today.

I loved cream of chicken at that stage. I made it with chicken broth for some protein and strained it twice. I loved it. All my protein drinks were fruity or sweet.

My favorite was black bean soup: one can black beans, one can chicken broth, bring to boil and simmer for a couple minutes. Puree and strain(to get bean hulls out). Add a TBSP or two of greek yogurt(nonfat) to give it some extra protein. I still love that soup!!

One thing that seemed to work for me, I didn't worry too much about calories until I "graduated" to all foods, which was a month out.  I did use sugar free things like jello and pudding, but things like cream soups, applesauce, refried beans, mashed potatoes, all fairly high in carbs or fat (or both), I ate them.  In teeny tiny amounts, of course.  I figured the point was to slowly re-introduce food to my poor wounded tummy, not so much to watch carbs and fat at that point.  (I also focused on getting in as much protein as I could, either in shakes or by mixing powder into things.)  Once I went to all foods, and learned what I could tolerate (pretty much everything, haha!), that's when I went with the full-on plan around low-carb.
