Goal?
Mine asked me if I'd given any thought to what I wanted it to be. I told him around 150 and he nodded and said that was in the healthy range for my height (5' 7") which may also be affected by my age, not sure, and he said it was very doable. Next time I was in there, I told him I'd decided to go for 145 and he shrugged and wrote it down. So in his case it was what was healthy, and of course, there is a range.
OTOH, when I went to my family doctor for advice on the surgery prior to making up my mind, my family doctor looked at me and said, "145 would be too thin for you." I don't know if he's considering my age or what.
Thing is, it's just a number. Yes, it's a target I'd like to make, but I will listen to my body.

Go to BMI calculator and enter height and weight desired, some suggest to get to the low end of NORMAL so you have some bounce back room if necessary. I orginally selected 145 from back in my days that nutri system told me that should be my goal but I think I was 5'11 back then, shrinking with old age So for me a low end of normal is actually 135 YIKES I really think I would be really thin there but will see. I might be really happy at 165 as well and will decide when I get to these weights to see if I want to continue going on or not. I do however would love to get to 135 and keep it between 135-145 if I can maintain there that would be good, if I can even make it that low. I don't recall being that weight ever.
Thank you everyone for the GREAT feedback! I want to do one of those weight ticker things that show on your posts, but I wasn't sure if I should put the goal I have in mind, or the one the surgeon says. I meet with him for the first time on Tuesday, so we'll see if we agree! I am 5'2" and I would be elated to get down to 145 (but I think I'm going to set my goal at 135 which is closer to what the charts say for me (105-120 - really?!).
Now if I can only figure out how to do the ticker thing -- I need to go read the instructions!
Thanks again ladies!

Go as far as you can go into what is normal BMI for you and your height. There are stats showing that you can regain some if the weight over the years, so best to get healthy and work at maintaining in the normal BMI. The key is to learn the new lifestyle and to maintain it. I know I will be more then happy at 165 the lowest that I can remember me being at but that will still leave me at being in the overweight category but I looked great back then, I am still in my 190s and a long way to go still. I did read a post a few months back where someone couldnt stop losing and was in the underweight category so you have to be careful too that this doesn't happen. I hope this person posts again someday, I forget what their name is on here. As long as you are healthy and whatever your goal you make it to is all that really matters as long as you are happy.
I chose mine based on what I was previously prior to having kids and my body frame. Its on the high end of the BMI charts, but I know what looks and feels good on my frame.
Surgeon just asked me what my expectations and goals were, I said 150 and he agreed.
Ticker - Go to my account, select Health tracker ( I believe) then you will see a tab for tickers and widgets.
Good luck with your journey!
