OT - Alright, fess up, who is reading Fifty Shades?
I know I am an anomaly, but I just don't get the fuss over someone who writes as badly as this author does.
So, there is sex in the book, big deal. Ann Rice writes books with sex in them and they are GOOD, this is just crappy writing with even worse (dare I say blah) erotica.
Tell me what I am missing LOL
I can't decide if I like it (do like the psychological aspect so far) or if it just makes me mad (can't look someone in the eye?)
We'll see.
Then again I tend to HATE most of the 'popular books' ie Twilight
The writer in me just couldn't handle it. I kept wanting to get out my red pen and ink up my Nook.
I don't think you are missing much. Like you said, there are better writers and better sex scenes out there.
Sign of our times maybe? Would I have read and liked The Great Gatsby if I lived in the 20's? Don't know.
I'll try again just because I think it's important to read other's work - good or bad.
The fact that the main character "rolled her eyes" 92 times in the first 26 pages made me want to rip the pages out and use them to line my birds cage LOL
I am OCD about books, if I start it I have to fini**** (don't get me started on the months worth of whining I did after I started Moby Dick, just could not get into that one LOL), so I will read all three, but I swear I am not going to like one moment of it :)
Gatsby has pages and pages of vague dialog with no diaglog tags. The professors these days comment on how it's the sign of the 20s and the complete lack of interest in everything and that somehow makes it amazing. Don't get me wrong. I love the book, I just think it's funny how willing I am to ignore the irritating writing in Gatsby, but not 50 Shades.
I wonder what will be said of this book? Will it be taught to our grandchildren as classic fiction?
HA! You and I have a lot in common when it comes to books. I have a volume of Jane Austin's full writings - all the books. I started it a few years ago and it killed me. Geez! The old style of writing was almost the end of me.
LOL we writers will never be able to use "rolled her eyes" again - not that any of the good writers do...
