Ok, so I had an insane week and today I finally got back to the gym.

You know, I did some working out but MFP doesn't count that kind ;)   *saturday night laugh*

I walked for 30 minutes then I got on what I thought was some type of elliptical but it was some type of stair stepper thing. Holy crap, that thing was intense. I wanted to try for 15 minutes but only did 5.

Then I was totally exhausted. I had to take a nap. When I nap, it's like I'm dead. Clearly my body needs it. Problem is, if I'm sleeping then I'm not burning calories.

I guess I just want to know at what point your exercise make you feel invigorated and not exhausted? I know I am only a month out. I want to try a Zumba class. My eventual goal is to do some spinning also.

Even fatter, I used to be able to walk 3-5 miles with no problem and only seeing myself  be able to do 2 is frustrating.

Most people at a month out arent even cleared for exercise beyond a little walking for a reason - you are still in the early stages of healing. It is very hard to want to take it easy when you start to feel better, but trust me, your body needs all the energy it can take right now for recovery. I was working out for a year before I had surgery, and even completed a 5K just a month before surgery, so the down time was very hard for me, and even though I was in decent shape (as decent as it gets at 300+ lbs) it took me a full 6 weeks to even be able to power walk. It was a full 3 months before I could get the energy for intense workouts. With the healing thats going on and reduced calories/fluids/carbs, your body is going to be sluggish for a while.

I recently cut my calories way back and I went from being able to run 6 miles to barely being able to walk a couple...our bodies need energy to power through some workouts! Give it time, you will get there soon enough

Besides walking I did nothing until 6 weeks.  Somewhere between 4 and 6 weeks is when I started having the energy back again.  Personally, I'd say give yourself a break, do a 30 min. walk and wait another 2 weeks.

Ok, so as long as I'm still normal, I feel better. I want exercise to be a regular part of my life now so I think that's why I don't want to feel like I'm not getting started on it.

I will just focus on walking 30 minutes more times a week and not keep wearing myself out so badly.

Thanks ladies!

I was told that after a month I don't have any restrictions except for extensive ab work.  I was doing 45 minutes of hard cardio and then weight training with the blessing from my clinic!  I am feeling fabulous!  I am just past 5 weeks out.

You don't get tired? How has your weight loss been? Do you eat a snack after you work out?

I got tired at first but increased my time by a couple of minutes (usually 5) each time I did a cardio exercise.  I also leave the gym completely exhausted but that is how I like to leave (knowing that I put in a hard workout).  I have lost 35 lbs since surgery (4/16/12).  I usually drink lots of water afterward and sometimes will have string cheese as a snack.

You have to get your body used to it again. Yes, you may have only done 5 minutes on the stairmaster, but that's how you build up resistance (or stamina?). Give it time, woman!

Before I had my surgery, I asked my surgeon how long before I could use my elliptical again. He didn't even blink. "As soon as you're home. I want you moving."

I started slowly, of course. I didn't bother keeping track of my speed or stride count...or even the amount of calories I was burning.

Are you getting enough protein daily? How much are you averaging?

You're right! MFP doesn't register sex as a workout ... WTH??? Lol
Sorry, my OH posts are all over the place tonight. I'm either bored or really tired.

At some point in my life, I would have thought MFP would be the last thing on my mind if I was getting laid. Now, its such an obsession that sadly....i'd be disappointed in not being able to log that!! Remind me to call headquarters on Tuesday about this problem :-p
