1,028 calories down at Zumba!

So for Mother's Day I got a Mio Drive+ heart monitor. I think I love the thing a bunch! It helps me figure out how many calories I burn...I'm kinda overly obsessed with getting bigger and bigger numbers. I put my weight in it and my resting heart rate and it times me and can even do interval timing and stuff. I like it a lot.
Do any of you have one? I know there have been many posts about the difference between how obese (and formerly obese) people burn calories and those who have never been obese.
So I was wondering if you use one of these and how much you believe the calorie burner part?
Today I went to Zumba - it was hella hot and we did a lot of jumping and stuff - and my Mio+ said I burned 1,028 calories! Whoo-hoo! I don't eat them back up or anything...but it's fun to watch!
Trying to get to 75 lbs. lost by the end of the week! We'll see!

HRM and V02 are the best tools for calculating calorie burn. There is a standard formula published in the journal of sport sciences in 05 that is commonly used. Different HRM's seem to have their own standards. I use a Polar RS100, it usually provides the most conservative estimate.
What I do after I exercise is to log my workout in a spreadsheet, calculaate my calories burned using the JSS formula, and in MFP. I then take the lowest of the three estimates and use that.
1028 sounds kind of high. On my hardest workouts My polar only had me burning 800+ calories and that was having my heart rate at an average of 126 for 71 minutes.

I saw the Polar ones...they were a little more expensive than I could spend. One of the trainers at the gym recommended the one I did get.
I think my calories burned today seems high...usually I am between 800-900 or so. But today I worked out really hard...and my average heart rate was 147. My resting heart rate is 62. I am also still quite a large woman at 254 even with nearly 75lbs. gone. I am not sure where that should be during my workout time. Today it was also super hot in there.
I am glad you like your HRM too...I kind of do the balance of the HRM and MFP too. I never eat to make up for the calories or whatever, but I do like to know the number. It is kind of addicting!!!
Thank you!

I felt that way for a long time too, but then that turned into the reason I wanted one. I can work out on one elliptical and it will give me a number like 400 calories. I do the same time...even greater intensity on another type of elliptical and it says I only burned 95 calories. I put my weight in both machines and age and all that...and it doesn't matter. It was getting very frustrating and I wanted a way that was consistant no matter what machine/workout I was doing. This has been fun...I can even tell when I am running outside or whatever about how many calories I've burned.

The woman who teaches my monday morning class is crazy! I love it though...I always work different muscles and parts of my body with her as the instructor!

I have no rhythm or good moves...I think of this picture while I do it...and it is so me...on the right! Everyone else (except a few select) look the same though!

I have zero rythm and look like an idiot, but so do most of the other people and noone cares! I don't go to the gym to do it anymore I have the XBOX 360 game I do with the kinnect.
