Having my weight loss noticed or not...
I think I like it best when people just say whats on their minds honestly. In my experience its usually overwhelmingly positive and uplifting.
As we talked about in the secrecy threads the other day - I am completely open about my surgery and my journey so I don't find a lot of questions invasive. I fond peoples interest kind of flattering.

160 lbs lost. Surgeons Goal Reached in 33 weeks. My Goal in 37 Weeks.
VSG: 11/2/2011; LBL+Thigh Lift+BL: 10/3/2012; Brach+Mastopexy: 7/22/2013
Well, I am completely open with my friends and family, and I made myself a promise to be completely open with overweight/obese people because I want them to know how great VSG can be. But I'm more reserved in general at work. A number of my coworkers know, but it feels so personal to discuss with clients and colleagues who don't know a lot of other things about my life that are much less personal than food and weight.
My step mom asks me *every time* she sees me how much I've lost, etc. I tell her straight out, but I feel like it's a pretty personal question and I usually say "50 or 60 pounds" to acquaintenances.
So I'm with Tripmom and Myownsunshine. I enjoy being noticed.
I do fudge the amount lost ("well over 100 lbs" not a lie, right?) in some situations where I don't want to admit how much I used to weigh, but often I'll just tell it straight out.

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22
175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012
Not there yet, obviously, but I'm an attention ***** too. Right now it's for my brains - hopefully soon it'll be for my bod as well. Beauty - meh - Charlize Theron has nothing to worry about. But you put the whole package together - confidence, fit body, healthy glow, smart... It's a hard thing to ignore and as long as you're not a jerk about it I say soak it up!
I love my husband more than life itself, but I am a cougar (he's 14 years younger) and I'm looking forward to melting a swath of young men as I go through my day...

It's interesting that you bring this up. I've lost over 40 pounds and have seen a number of people who don't seem to notice at all. One of my daughters-in-law tells me how great I look, and I do appreciate it a lot. On the other hand, most of the family doesn't mention it any more, and that's okay, too. With the wedding and other things happening, everybody has been busy doing/focussing on other things. Plus, with the surgery, I think there is simply an expectation that I'm losing weight. It's not news any more. LOL
I haven't figured out how I feel about the others. My theory is that I'm at a weight that I stayed at for many years, and so maybe I still look "familiar" to people. My dentist's receptionist said that she thought I looked like I'd lost weight when I entered the office, but she was busy with another patient and didn't mention it to me.
I'm kind of waiting to see what happens when I've lost another 20 or so pounds, when there will be marked changes in my face as well as my body, to see what happens.
I will love having people tell me I look great. I have not decided who I will tell about the surgery, though I tend to blab everything so probably it will just blurt out.

I enjoy getting compliments, especially if it has to do with my work at the gym - arms, flat stomach, etc... I don't really love the indepth questioning though. I chose not to share my WLS with every acquaintance. All my good friends and family know and all my co-workers, but casual acquaintances don't need to be in on my private life.
For a time I found it odd that some people didn't say anything at all. I saw a lot of people this weekend I haven't seen in a year. Very few people mentioned my weightloss. Those that did all asked me if it was intentional. Once I said yes, they were happy for me and a few even asked questions.
It's become pretty clear that a lot of people my age (late 40s) and older immediately think of disease rather than lifestyle change when it comes to dramatic weight loss. I think they don't want to pry into private matters so they don't mention it.
That's my take on it.

I will admit, I am more comfortable accepting compliments via OH than I am in real life. I also clench up a bit when some people in person go over the top with me. I do like compliments now, it's been a long time since I've gotten them but I've never been one to just take it all in. Maybe I need to work on that?
My 2 sisters were calling me "Heidi Klum" right after I had surgery and I was like WTH???? I didn't even look like a chubby version of her but I knew why they were calling me that because I was losing weight. I would tell them to stop before and now I just smirk when they say it. They just love to torment me!
