I'm home and feeling good!!

Yay! My VSG yesterday went really smoothly...in recovery after 1 hour, walking wthin 4-5 hours, and discharged today at noon. I have suture glue and steri-strips in place of stitches and staples, but happy about that. Nurses, hubby, and friends have been so supportive....and Dr. Pleatman as well!
One difference I've noticed so far is my distaste for sweet. The Lortab gives me dry heaves, and even my toothpaste grosses me out. I only vomited once here at home...probably a bit heavy on the water sipping a few hours ago. Still cannot believe I had this done, but confident it is for the best. THANK YOU to everyone who has given their support and encouragement!

Congrats to you! I had surgery this week as well (7/25), so I feel your pain on the lortab. It tastes like absolute **** Thankfully it hasn't made me hurl, but I was worried it would. Toothpaste has always grossed me out a bit, making me gag if I accidentally swallow any, so I was already cautious of that, which doesn't seem to have changed. I am TERRIFIED of vomiting post surgery. Water sipping has been difficult for me, as once it's luke warm, I just can't drink it anymore. I have to go swap for really cold water to get to sipping again. It doesn't make me sick to have the luke warm, but it feels strange going down, and I don't like it.
Pursuant to a friend's recommendation, I got an abdominal binder yesterday. Let me tell you, that thing is awesome. Makes riding around on ****ty Kansas roads a LOT more comfortable, and it helped me to get a little more comfortable in bed (and sleep better). Coincidentally, I've decided the lortab was doing nothing for me, so I am only taking it to help me sleep at night. Now if the gas would stop, I'd be hunky-dory. :) I got some gas-x strips, but I haven't seen much of a difference yet.
(By the way, Dr. Spatula is an awesome name. :D I love it!) Best of luck to you! Keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks, everyone!!
Congrats to you, beckyinkc on your recent surgery...and thanks for the compliment about my name!
I'm going to go out for the first time to pick up my hand blender and food scale from Walmart...and maybe some gas-x strips as well. I bought the chewables the other day, but now realize that chewing them may not be the best thing right now.
I got a protein shake and some Unjury broth in...now working on the water, which is not the easiest thing. I used to be able to swill 12 oz of water at a time (I love it!), and now being able to get some sips in is incredibly difficult. Hoping this goes away with time. The weirdest thing is not feeling hungry. I have no appetite and hope it stays this way for a while. I'm trying to stave off the Lortab and considering getting some liquid Tylenol instead...
And...Rose and SusieQ...good luck with your upcoming surgeries! My advice is to follow your surgeon's orders exactly, and take everything slowly...now, I just have to find a toothpaste that doesn't make me queasy! :D
