Angry and disappointed
I had my surgery about 7 weeks ago.
I lost 37 pounds before surgery, both on my own (11) and with the nutritionist (26). I'm very pleased with that. Since surgery, I've only lost 25 pounds!
I'm really disappointed in that number. Someone eating this little for this long at my size should surely have lost more than that by now.
I have PCOS and hypothyroid, but I'm well in my ranges for both. I feel like I've been duped by the entire WLS industry. I'm glad it's working out so well for most of you, but I feel like I've been screwed once again by my genetics/body.
Anyone else getting screwed by their bodies?

I haven't had the surgery yet... but I have been pouring over then forum for a better part of a month.. often people have a difficult time of getting the weight off if they are not getting their fluids in. Could that be the case for you?
Regardless I really hope it gets going and maybe some vets have some more advice for you
best of luck!

best of luck! wow this post makes me sad!! I think losing 25lbs in 7 weeks is awesome!! thats almost 4lbs a week.. the sleeve isnt a miracle thing that just magically makes you lose weight.. and it sounds like by your loss you are doing the right things to lose.. just keep those things up and the weight will start to fall off!!! have faith that your body will catch up with where you think you should be and in a few months we will be celebrating your victories because you are happy with them!!! :)
I think many of us feel slighted by our situation and it's easy to let that get to us or get us down. The reality is: it's the hand we are dealt in life and how we react is the real key.
Would I love to naturally smart, rich, thin, charismatic, whitty, funny, etc? YES! Where's my Easy Button?? But in the real world, we have to work for almost everything and some stuff is simply going to be hard. Harder for me than my neighbor. Harder for you than your friend. So on and so on.
I think you are being too tough on yourself. You lost a bunch of weight right before surgery. Typically, those first few pounds are the easy ones. After that, it slowly gets tougher and tougher as our body becomes smaller, we naturally need less to maintain it. Thus, the losses naturally slow down. I think you are doing very well. Look how far you've come!! Almost 60 pounds in a few months!!!! That's fantastic! The beauty is: the sleeve gives us the chance to take the weight off and keep it off. So while this feels like a race, we have to keep our eye on the prize and not poop out from anxiety about the pace of things before we even reach the prize.
Hang in there.

When you lose significant weight prior to surgery, your extra water weight is already gone - so you don't get that big drop right after surgery that someone who hasn't dieted prior to surgery does. But the weight you lost prior to surgery still counts!
So in preparation for surgery and after surgery, you are down 62 lbs, which I think is about 20% of your starting weight. That's incredible. Honestly, I'm not sure how you feel screwed.
You have to keep things in perspective. You've averaged a loss of over 3 lbs per week for seven weeks - that is really really hard to do! That's a 10,000 calorie deficit per week. I don't know your metabolism specifically, but I had mine tested about five months ago, and found it to be MUCH slower than I expected. And I've since read that this is common in people who have lost and gained weight repeatedly.
For me, eating 600 calories/day, without exercise, was "only" giving me a 7,000 calorie deficit/week - or about 2 lbs of weight loss. Yep, 2 lbs/wk on 600 calories/day. Thank goodness I had the surgery, or I never would have been able to make that happen! (What I did do was start exercising full force in an attempt to increase my metabolism - and it is working).
Sometimes after surgery, the hormones that were stored in our fat cells come out full force, and emotions can make it hard to keep perspective. Just take a deep breath and keep following your plan - it will continue to work for you.

I am going to say this with as much love as I can. Honey, you need to wake up, smell the coffee, and get over yourself.
You've lost a total of 62 lbs. Thats pretty freaking awesome.
Are you still losing or have you stalled out? Are you staying on plan with both Exercise and Nutrition? Getting enough water? There are no guarantees that you are going to be a fast loser or a slow loser. All any of us can do is work our plans, attend to our after care, and let the process work.
Note I said process - not sleeve. There is so much more to this than just having the surgery and melting away. If you are unsure whether you are doing things correctly, we are all here to offer advice and support. Your surgeon and nut can also provide specific advice based on their plans.
Comparing your weight loss to others is a sure track to frustration. How much weight you lose in a period of time is all very individual. With your other issues, its not surprising that you may lose slower than some. I guarantee there are others who wish they were losing as much as you.
GIve yourself a break. I'll bet you find that when you stop focusing and stressing, you will drop more weight than you thought possible. Don't focus on either the calendar or the scale, focus on your process. The weight will come off.

My body hates me! I know exactly how you feel. I started the program back in Septembr 2011.
I started trying to lose 10% of my weight November 2011. I was discouraged by the
constant delays and waiting caused by my healthcare provider. Finally had surgery
May 23rd. The day I checked in for surgery I had lost exactly 10% of my starting weight.
I am now 10 weeks post surgery and have only lost 27 pounds since surgery. Talk
about disappointment. I am trying to be patient. When I went for my last appointment
the surgeon told me not to be discouraged. He said losing it slowly will make me keep it
off. I don't believe that. I am beginning to feel I have made a major mistake in opting
for gastric bypass. I really do not want to feel this way. You have lost a lot more than
I have so I believe you have a fighting chance. I did the surgery because I was
borderline diabetic and headed for real serious health issues. You hang in there.
I know you can do it. Good Luck.

Oh my go****hink you are doing very well! I am 4 months out and have lost 66 lbs, that is less than you and I feel like I am doing really well! I have hypothyroidism as well..... remember, the sleeve wasn't a magic wand, it is a tool to add to what we already do, one more thing to help us, not fix us.
Hang in there and be proud because you should feel proud!!! :-)

You had surgery 7 weeks ago and lost 25 lbs since then...that's 3.5 lbs a week!
When have you ever lost that amount of weight in 7 weeks? That is a lot of weight in 7 weeks!
Your body is also adjusting to a MAJOR operation and change!!!
YOUR DOING GREAT!!! Slow and steady wins the race! I kept saying to myself "As long as the number goes down I'm happy!"

You are right, you have been duped. If after all the research you did into this, you still believe that losing 25 lbs. in 7 weeks is a bad result, after losing 37 pounds before surgery, then somehow, somewhere, you missed the info session on how this will go. This is going to take work, perseverance and continued effort on your part for a very long time. You are going to have to eat on plan, exercise and strengthen your ability to choose healthy foods and increase your tolerance of set backs and stalls. Calorie restriction and carb restriction are your new normal and will need to be managed by you for the rest of your life. You can do this, it will not be easy, it will not come fast, but with effort--it will come off and you will reach goal. Now take all of that negative energy, the anger, the disappointment, the unrealistic thinking and channel it into making your dreams come true. I am pulling for you!
