I was a smoker for 20 years until I quit four months ago TODAY!! Yet, I find myslef craving that bad habit again, with all of the stress at home and at work. But every time I do, I think of how far I have come WITHOUT a cigarette. I went through starvation of the pre-op diet, surgery, and the aftermath, without smoking. I also found myslef encouraging others to quit the terrible habit...now what kind of role model would I be if I picked up that nasty habit again...pep talk done, it STILL doesn't make me want one any less right now...but I know I won't do it. I made a commitment to myself...I am sticking to it, no matter how bad the craving.

I quit 9 years ago and some days its as hard as day one. I think that's when my eating habits changed for me. I have gained most my weight since I quit smoking. More power to ya for going thru the quitting and now your sleeve !!! Keep up the good work.

P.S. I didn't quit cause I wanted too...it was ordered by my doctor as I have emphysema now.

You quitting smoking is a beautiful thing!  Won't be too long and you are going to start to get disgusted by the smell of others smoking.  My brilliant husband HATED that I smoked when we were first together.  When it came time to do a wedding present for him, he asked me to quit smoking for his present.  Who can say no to that?

Just think of the amazing transformation you are going through... it takes about 12 months I think for the lungs to rebound from smoking.  So in 8 months you lungs will be happy and you will have lost a boat load of weight-  you will feel amazing!  Awesome job!!!!!!!!!!!

Way to go!  I quit 10 years ago.  Some days, it's still hard.  When I'm stressed or angry or drinking- we all have triggers.  Then I think about how much money I've saved.   When I faced the tough days, though, I would ask myself, "Would one cigarette, right now, be worth going through those first two weeks of quitting all over again?"
It gets easier.  There are longer and longer stretches between the cravings, and you develop better coping skills to recognize a craving for what it is and work through it.
And if you slide?  Just like anything else: it's not the end of the world, you're not a terrible person.  One smoke doesn't mean you need to buy a pack, or if you bought one, you don't have to fini****  Figure out another strategy and move on.
Breathe!  You don't have to get through the next 50 years, just the next 5 minutes.
