I am three months post op and have lost just over 100LBS. I put in a lot of time at the gym and stuck to my eating plan very well and plan on doing the same for the next three months.

My starting weight was 452 and I am not down to 351, I have been using a 4-6LBS a week range for my goal is that realistic... I know it comes off quicker as I am a bigger guy.... but I would like to be 299 by late October and I am wondering if that is a realistic goal? I am running my first ever 5K Mud Run called Warrior Dash and would love to weigh in at 299 on that date!

Looking for some awnsers...

Thank you,

Mario

Congrats on the loss! Go you!!!

Ok, so from your signature it looks like the run is Oct. 27th. That gives you 9 weeks and 1 day.

51lbs divided by 9 = 5.66666

It's close, but I say GO FOR IT!

Like you said, you're a bigger guy - but that is working in your favor right now. Your Resting Metabolic Rate is higher than a "normal" person. So you get more "bang for your buck" as far as exercising goes. A "normal" person can walk around the block and it's not much of a caloric burn...but since your body is carrying that extra weight it has to work harder, so you get more of a calorie burn.

Anyway - it will be close. There will be zero room for sneaking carbs or sugar, but I think you could do it. I BELIEVE IN YOU!

Good luck!!!

Last year during my extreme weightloss, I was losing between 5-8lbs a week... but this was due to really pushing my walking to the extreme of  13K a day plus swimming, dancing, lifting weights etc. My plateaus at that time lasted only a few days before the scales were dropping again. I kept honest with my cals n eating healthy  1100-1200 cal daily.. in 9 months I had lost 200 lbs.
So yes getting where you want to be is possible...stay focused, determined and committed n you WILL do it !!!

You're a guy so it's possible - typically you guys always lose faster.

Can I give you some advice though? You can totally ignore me if you want... don't set date goals. Only say "I want to reach 299". Just my opinion but setting date goals is a lot of pressure. If you can NOT meet that goal and be okay with it, that's one thing, but I know most folks would beat themselves up every week if they don't see that 6 pounds on the scale.

Just what *I* would do.

You can probably do it. It will be close, but I wouldn't put a date to it unless you can really handle NOT meeting it (or exceeding it for that matter LOL)

You are doing an awesome job!

Hey Mario!
Sorry, I can't give you any advice on your goal but I wanted to send my congrats on your success thus far. Damn bro, you motivate me!  I'm trying to do the same (-100lbs in 3 months). Great work!

I just got cleared today for all exercise activity and I'm going to join a gym this weekend.  What type of exercise regimen do you utilize in the gym if you don't mind me asking?

Take care and best of luck to you! -Larry

Thank you everyone for the advice... I know I should not set date specific goals but its the competitive drive in me I suppose....

At week 4 I started walking/ jogging week 6 I was cleared to hit the gym and have been going 6-7 times a week.

In the beginning I was running ( trainging for Warrior Dash) 6-7 times a week for 30 mins to an hour and lifiting weights 4-5 days a week. I started to noticed that my hips and knees where getting so sore that it made me be less intense in the gym so I found my saving grace.... the swimming pool!

I know swim an hour a day ( non stop) laps ( Freestyle) and add running ( 30-45 mins) 3 days a week and weights 3-5 days a week. Its a lot but I want this weight off yeasterday!

PS  - for swimming buy a waterproof MP3 player... worth its weight in gold to listen to music while I swim! !!
