Then I'm gonna send my mom a pic of me when I lose the weight, she'll be floored...She doesn't know I'm getting this done, only my husband and a couple of friends, who now I wish I never told, but oh well live and learn.

Congratulations! I'm excited for you! I'm 2 weeks pre-op, my date is October 2nd, I had my pre-admin testing today and started the liquid diet. I know how you feel about telling people; I feel the same way, I have told my BF, my son a very close, supportive friend, a close supportive co-worker, my boss (sort of supportive).. early on, when I first started the journey in 2010 (I was denied coverage) I told a friend, she is also heavy, she seemed supportive then, so I told her when I started the process this time; strange, she's not as supportive this time, all the negative comments about.. you know you will have to always watch what you eat, etc, etc. My BF keeps saying she is just jealous, becaue we won't be big together any more. Oh well,
This did get me thinking about, why we don't want to tell people; why is that? I have to think more on that one.
As for your mom.... I think we all say things at times that are not meant to hurt, but they do, I have found that more as a parent than I ever could've realized as a daughter.
