I'm just curious.  How long was it before you tried blenderized foods?  What was your schedule per your sugeon?  Did you follow it to the letter?  Just curious.

Thanks!

I had to wait two weeks per my surgeon. However, I wasn't able to tolerate much of them until recently and I am nearly 6 weeks out. Each person is different. You try something and if it doesn't work this time you try again later. There are too many variables to count on proceeding according to a calendar.

Hi, i am 4 weeks out and i refuse to eat any blenderized foods!!! i have tried different foods to see how my stomach reacts to them. If i feel like crap i wont eat the food anymore until my stomach heals more. I can eat meat loaf, fish, and only an ounce of tuna fish. Chicken and turkey are no good, i puke it up within minutes.

Take it slow and try different foods and remember everyone heals differently.

I never really did any blenderized or pureed food. What soups I had I pulled out the bigger chunks and mashed them up or removed them (which only lasted a few days until I established tolerance for the chunkier bits, by which time I was tired of soups and had moved on to the soft proteins. Note my doc doesn't have any liquid only phase, incorporating mushes and soft proteins as tolerated from the hospital on out.

Thanks for your answers.  Very interesting.  My doctor insists on 2 weeks of clear liquids then 4 weeks of protein shakes, then 2 weeks of blenderized foods.  However, they keep saying "listen to your body" and my body is HUNGRY!  I'm not going to try anything for at least another week (just one week post-op right now) but I can't imagne 4 weeks on protein shakes after that.  I guess I'll just have to see what my body says.

Following your doc's plan, be gentle on transitioning back toward more solid foods - after six weeks of liquids (or more, if your doc also does some weeks of liquids pre-op) your stomach is going to be seriously out of shape and may be slow to re-learn how to do its' job - it is a muscular organ that will get weak and flabby without exercise and take longer to get back to normal than one that was exercised some while it was healing.

My surgeon said I could have full liquids in week 2, which also meant cream soups and vegetable, lentil, split pea soups thinned and blended. I did not have any trouble with them. Just super small portions and go slow. Now beginning week 3, I am allowed soft foods. Ricotta cheese, laughing cow, cottage cheese, I made white chicken chili and blended it and it was great! . I am not sure how much I will use the blender this week, but next week is soft to semi solid and I plan to try try tuna salad and things like that.

Good luck. It is hard to try new things, but I am just taking it really slow and so far ok. About 1/4 cup or less of these thicker foods is about it for me right now. I made ricotta bake tonight and yum!!

Clear liquid in the hospital (2 days), 2 weeks full liquids, 2 weeks puréed, 2 weeks soft food.  Yes, followed it to the letter.
