4 DAYS POST-OP.  SUDDENLY HAVE 99.7 TEMP.  MY INSTRUCTIONS SAY TO CALL THE DOC IF I HAVE 101.5.  ANYONE ELSE  EXPERIENCE THIS?  PLEASE HELP!

If it goes any higher like hitting 100 call. While it might not be anything...a fever is one of the signs of a leak.

I ran a low grade fever for a couple of weeks or so...I would watch it closely and call your surgeon if it's over 101.5.   Try not worry!

I did have a low grade fever.  One of my incisions (where I still had the drain tube) had become infected.  Had drain removed and  started antibiotic and was just fine.

Hope yours is nothing too!

I had fever up to 101.9 2 days after surgery and had to be readmitted. Monitor your temp but I would not worry about 99.7. Are you still doing your incentive spirometry? Keep doing that and walk. Those are the two best things to do right now and keep hydrated.

THANKS EVERYONE.  I HAVE CALMED DOWN AND FEEL A LITTLE BETTER.  IT'S JUST THAT THIS IS SUCH A HUGE UNDERTAKING AND YOU HAVE LOTS OF TIME TO SIT AND WORRY ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT CAN GO WRONG!

Post-op on days 2-6 I had a low grade 99.4 but it never got any higher than that. Just your body reacting to everything going on and producing more white cells to keep you healthy. Just make sure if it does elevate do call your Dr.

I had a fever 4 days post op. started with 100.5 so I called my surgeon and he said to take two tylenols and to aggressively use the spirometer. He said that it could be that your lungs are not opening up fully after the anesthesia and you could be at risk for pneumonia. I did as he said and used the spirometer hard, on the highest setting. Took the tylenol. For the next 2 days the fever hovered around the 99 range and I kept at it with tylenol and breathing and it went away. I was worried about a leak too but he told me the fever is much higher then and you will have pain also. Still it is something not to take lightly because pneumonia is no fun either.

My husband ran a low grade temp 99.9 or less for several days after surgery.  Dr said fine as long it was under 101.  He didn't have any additional problems from it.
