Support Group
I'm attending one on Saturday. Since I'm training to be a group facilitator I don't believe they are for weiner losers. :-P
This is great advice, Frisco. I think the accountability factor will make all the difference to how well I do, from here through to goal...and after! Maintenance is no picnic! LOL
Frisco,
Based on your comments the other night I found a local support group. I had my surgery in Mexico and my post op instructions were in the form of an email. I followed them but they were a bit vague. I have done ok so far, but given the types of questions I have been having you made it clear that without some support failure was a very real possibility.
Thanks,
k
Last night was really helpful for me. I really enjoyed your input and your wisdom. I feel sometimes that I talk too much but it certainly helps to get some issues out for discussion. I owe my success to Dr. C but I know that support groups really keeps me on track. Love Cafe Frisco too!

ya frisco, pre op i thought the support and follow up thing was kind of bogus but boy am i a believer now. ours is only every other month but i would go more if we had it. i made some efforts to start a support group for the in between months but didn't get many to show up. may try it again because i just can't imagine this journey without it. endless stuff learned. diane
Frisco, I totally agree with you, support groups are for wiener losers. :) OK, I'm jus kidding. I love our support group as I always feel energized afterwards and I walk away feeling like I either learned something new or offered support to someone who needed it. I do think that our San Jose group is rather unique as it has so many VETS that the newbies always feel outnumbered. Where else do you get that? Usually, support groups are full of people just starting the process or needing support in the middle. I think our group just really likes each other and that makes a huge difference. Many of us even go out to dinner before group and socialize outside of group. That along with Dr. Cirangle and our NUT being there makes it pretty amazing. I even gave up a few hours of work ( I bill by the hour) to make this group.
I left two guys working on a set to be done for the next day to make group last night......In the past that would of never happened......
I just said..... looks like you guys are working late tonight......they were like.... "where you goin"......
Dinner with mom and support group..... send me progress pics I'll be back by 10, don't leave till I see it..... see ya at 10.....
I phoned in a couple tubs of Chinese Food for them to nosh on......

You are fortunate to have such a fantastic support group. I thank you for sharing the pearls of wisdom that come out of your groups meetings. Our socialized medical care here in Nova Scotia has left the majority of us unable to get the surgery and support we need in a timely manner. Just the wait list to get to see the Weight Loss clinic here is 10+ years. So many of us bite the bullet and head south for our surgeries and unfortunately are not able to have the support for aftercare that you are able to have. Do not underestimate the effect that you and your group sharing has on many of us. I am now 12 lbs from goal and am working hard at not slipping into old habits. You and the others you mentioned have played a part in that. I thank you and I am sure many others feel the same.
Ok, I think the San Jose group should all converge on the new Concord group one time since there are a goodly number of us East Bayers. Closer for Diane too, if we could get her to come! I have really enjoyed the meetings and learned a lot, but hubs was coming home from a trip so I wanted to be home...
