Happy Thanksgiving
What a difference a year makes. Last year we were preparing for DH to have his VSG on 12/9. I was beginning to work on finding a second comorbidity so I could qualify through Kaiser as well. I had just scheduled my sleep study to see if I had sleep apnea. Turns out I have it so there was my ticket for my VSG. DH is almost a year out, and is in maintenance. I am still a newbie, only 10 weeks out, so this year's feast will be much different.
Since my family are not fans of turkey, I am cooking a small no nitrate ham from Trader Joe's, homemade brandied cranberries made with a sugar substitute, and a SF, low carb pumpkin dessert that I got from a WLS surgery food blog. A friend who is coming for dinner is making a sweet potato dish, and that is the extent of our menu. The friend who is coming over has also had WLS, she has a RNY and is about 5 years out. So, 3 out of 5 folks sharing the feast have had WLS, this makes keeping the menu on plan so much easier.
Aside from the dinner, I plan to use Skype with my daughter and grandchildren. I live in southern CA and they are in northern MT, so even thought we only get to see them in person once or twice a year, Skype is a good way to stay in touch.
So, Happy Thanksgiving everyone. This is just one of many days that I am thankful for the tool my surgeon gave me, and the new healthy lifestyle that my DH & I share.
Happy Thanksgiving to you guys! I love your comparison to last year :) Glad you found it an are well on your way to goal.
