Overwhelming Urge to Snack Today

Keith,

Stop and really examine your feelings.  There is most likely an emotional trigger that you are feeling.  Take 15 minutes and just focus in ward before you head to the kitchen and see if you can isolate what you are really feeling.  Then you can develop a strategy for recognizing and redirecting that impulse to eat.

Thats what helped me quite a bit.

I can honestly say that today did not feel like emotional hunger. Its been a very good weekend. I got a lot accomplished. My wife and I are getting along. I had a great day yesterday shooting a commercial. I didn't really feel like working today but I pushed through that and actually got a lot accomplished. I will think on it some more though. You might be right.

Another oddity is when I do eat I feel sick as soon as I get 2 bites in.

Keep in mind - emotional eating doesn't necessarily mean negative emotions.  There could be all sorts of triggers, or even habits.  When I had my LBL and was recliner bound in front of the TV old habits resurfaced and I started wanting to snack.  Maybe you are use to grazing while you work on Popcorn or nuts or something like that.

Keith,

It is not uncommon to be hungry early on.

Get busy with something that you can lose yourself in that you like to do unrelated to food.  I have an assortment of activities to keep me busy -- everything from jigsaw puzzles, doing math word problems, working on a latchhook rug, playing Scrabble and bridge online, to taking the bike out or going for a walk.

If you feel like you want to keep snacking, you are restless so you may be looking to food for stimulation.  Exercise to music that you love.

If you are tired, or if you have overexercised, and haven't been getting enough sleep, that can make you hungry and want to snack continuously.  If you have the nagging addictive voice telling you to eat and reminding you how good a certain food would be, take a nap to quickly quiet the nagging inner voice of the food demons.

I have noticed B-Complex will cause you to crave carbs, especially sugar, and this was confirmed by the pharmacist where i used to work.  It is ironic since B vitamins are important for metabolism and energy.

Chromium and vanadium are minerals that quell appetite, to a point, as they affect blood sugar which can affect a person's desire to eat.

Your urge to snack will pass.  Don't think about the pleasures of a specific food.  The cravings/urge will pass.

Success begets success, so stay the course if you can.  It is hard but you can do it.

You have been passionate in your quest for a smaller and healthier body, and you have passionately helped others to do this as well.   I hope you are feeling better.

Donna

Hey Keith!

I had a day like that abt a week ago. I drank hot liquids ( decaf coffee, tea and chick broth) and seemed to do the trick for me. Like Rita said...the dense proteins helped too. I really think it was head hunger for me..because all I really wanted was that thing that will not be named but starts with a "P" and has 2 "Z"'s in it. Yeah...head hunger and bad feelings wanted me that day...but my sleeve won out!

How you handle this will help make you stronger for the next time. Remember..."This too shall pass".

I'm like Deb - if I have something warm to drink it stops the urge to snack.

Hi Keith

I have random "hungry" days, usually just after or while my weight is dropping.

Have learnt that I can fight the urge just so long (and anyway it takes up too much of my energy to convince myself not to eat). Now I make 2 egg white, one scoop protein powder,a big scoop of ispagulla husk (very fillinf) and make myslef pancakes that I chop into bite sizes and if this is the only thing Im allowed to snack. If I dont feel like it,too bad, then I get nothing.Usually so greatful for my pancakes.

I am not going to fight my head forever about this.Denying myself makes me obsess about it so now I passify the head with a very healthy snack. And the head thanks me!

Others will differ about this but for me its about lifestyle and not having to fight a battle every day for the rest of my life rather its about learning to live with myself for the rest of my life.My foods wont change much going into maintanance as I love what I eat now.I am losing about 7 pounds a month now and am as peaceful about food as I've ever been in my life. Not even huge emotional stress gets me to eat the old foods anymore as they are not really off limits but just not as attractive as before and not my go to's anymore.I have just one rule for myself.Carbs stays under 40 automatically.

It doesnt happen more than once in 10 days though.

I had an overwhelming hungry day on Friday .. I was sick/ had been stalled for over a week and felt just plain hungry. I ate a few things that kept my cal / prot fine but went WAY over my carbs 4 the day.... shockingly the next day I lost 2 lbs. And the next day, I wasn't hungry @ all!

There is a theory about that called carbo loading. I think it is too risky for us to do regularly but what you describe is the result.
