5k
I haven't done one yet but I am planning on at least one this year and depending how that goes maybe all of them. I would like to be able to run/jog it, may need to lose a bit more weight to do it. I know I could walk it. 5k is about 3 miles which I do on the treadmill several times a week. You walked 5 miles the other day so you should be able to easily walk a 5k, just be careful of your knees, that's where I have my biggest concerns. They hurt going up and down stairs, running might not be an option.

I would recommend the same for you! Make sure you are wearing the proper footwear for your walk/run pattern, it makes all.the.diffrence. in the world! Like for me, I have to wear a stability shoe for both walking and running b/c I have a slight outward turn to my ankle that needs the extra support, if I don't have it I hurt from head to toe at the end of a walk/run.
If your knees are bothering you, you might want to go get your shoes checked! Find a running/fitness store in your area that does run evaluations, they will put you on a treadmill and watch you walk so they can see your footfalls and patterns and then recommend the right kind of shoe for you to wear! It made all the difference for me, I went from having sore knees/hips/back after running to no pain at all just with the switch of a shoe!
I've done several 5K before I lost weight so now I walk 10K and just recently with Alison I completed my FIRST Half Marathon. This year I uploaded an app to my android for Couch to 5K and have begun training to run. I like the app because I can play my own music as opposed to the podcasts that usually have music with them.
Much success.

I haven't done a 5k but have been thinking about signing up for one to try and motivate myself to train to run. I'm in Boston so if you end up signing up for one let me know maybe I'll sign up too :)
I found this website http://runningintheusa.com with some races listed. Good luck :)
