So tired of protein drinks!

I am almost to the point of having soft foods, but man, I am really tired of the protein drinks!  It does not help that my family, of course, has to eat real food and I have to prepare it.  At least now my husband is out of town and I can make quick & easy things for my kids.  And I do like to smell real food.  I would just like to chew something other than jello!  I have not done that since Christmas day!!

In the meantime, I've been going through my recipes and deciding which ones I can adapt to my new life and which ones I should toss.  At least I feel like I will EVENTUALLY get to cook food I can eat again!  I don't know why looking at recipes when I am over protein drinks is helpful and not torture, but it's working for now.

So, if you're still here like me, I just wanted to commiserate.  :)

Try crunching on sugar free popsicles. That might help a little, though it's still sweet and not savory.

Have you tried unflavored protein in broth or thin soups?

Hang in there. You're going to be eating mushies soon and the world will open before you! Congrats and welcome to the loser's bench!

Thanks.  Hey, I've lost 23 lbs and you have 23 to go, cool!

I do have some sf popsicles.  It's just so cold!  But I will try one once my kids are in bed.  I swear, I have to eat Jello when they aren't looking or they'll be trying to have some.  I'm like, "you can eat anything else in the kitchen.  This jello is all I get--NO!"

I don't have any unflavored protein.  I do have a chicken bouillon one which is disgusting and a beef one that I may have in a bit.  But I'm not a huge fan of it either.  I'm almost there.  And it really is exciting to think of what I CAN have eventually with VSG, and how most of my favorite recipes can be altered to fit.

I'm the opposite.  There's not a lot of pureed foods to have and the shakes are so easy and convenient and I'd rather stick to the shakes.  I ordered different ones online.  Healthwise orangade with a scoop of Unjury vanilla is yummy.  It tastes like orange sherbet and has 35 gms of protein.  I got bumped up to 90gm of protein a day so I have to find ways to get it in.

My friend's website ... Dave Schronce ... has tons of recipes ... he had gastric bypass and has always been somewhat of a amateur chef (perhaps closer to a pro).  He has made recipes "weight loss friendly"

http://www.schronce.net/forum/index.php?16

Go to the above link and click on the label ... WLS Friendly.  There are 4 pages of recipes ... including Muffin in a Minute with a ton of variations on the theme.  These are good.  I have made them with flax meal and also almond meal.  Next time I am going to try a mixture using coconut flour (at least that is what I am thinking).

There are a lot of really nice looking recipes for various stages of weight loss including maintenance.

The first month is definitely the hardest...once you move on to real foods it will get easier!  I still have a 1-2 shakes a day...
