Didn't your surgeon send you home with anything?  My surgeon sent me home with Senna if I needed it, but I found that a couple prunes a day worked just as well.  Are you getting your water in?  That makes a big difference too.

My surgeon's first suggestion is "more fiber".  If that doesn't work he suggests something plus Miralax, but I don't remember what that something was...

My team said Miralax. It is dissolvable and non flavored. I have used this for years and it is great.

Miralax.  You can add it to anything.  It isn't flavored and mixes well with everything.

My surgeon suggested mineral oil, 2 tablespoons once a day.

If you're already backed up - adding MORE fibre at this point isn't what you need to do.  It needs to MOOOVE on out - try Milk of Magnesia for a few days in a row and I would suggest using a stool softener on a regular basis for now.  I have had this issue BIG TIME and it is now getting a bit better.  Once I "cleared out" (which was a nightmare morning in and of itself), I then alternated between taking a softener one day, MOM the next and so on, for a week.  Now I just take some fibre in my food and a softener every other day.

So if you've got the tennis ball stuck at the gate (sorry if TMI, but that's what it feels like to me), try glycerin, either in suppositories or a little bulb that you squeeze in.  Sometimes it takes more than one, but it works for me.

Once things are moving, to keep them moving, I take a capful of generic miralax (the costco brand) in my coffee every morning, and have done that for probably 2 years.  No problems!  :-)
