I've heard hair loss is quite common after this surgery. But have your iron checked. Anemia can also cause hair loss.

I'm sorry, I've read a lot about this since it's one of my fears.  It seems there are some things that can help replenish new hair growth, but not much that will keep it from falling out.

No need to be afraid - THIS IS NORMAL!

It happens after any major surgery.  Your body diverts protein and other resources to rebuilding the damaged tissues.  Hair loss is the side effect of that process.  It doesn't happen to everyone and it can vary greatly from individual to individual.

It usually starts being noticeable at about the 3 month point and in some people continues until the 1 year point.  You can't prevent it, but you can help mitigate it.  Keep your protein as high as you can.  Take a biotin supplement.  Keep as hydrated as possible.

Have you labs checked - that usually happens at a 3 month check up anyway.

Best of luck.  Sorry this freaked you out.

I understand how you feel and what you are going through. Normally people start to see their hair fall out around 12 weeks post op, that is also the natural course that you loose hair , we constantly shed. However I'm one of the rare few we're I started very early .

After much research and a good long tearful talk with my surgeon this is what I know . Its going to happen and there is not much we can do to stop it , however there are things you can do to help support the regrowth and thinning . This what my doctor and NUT prescribed for me .

Tips for thinning hair .

Continue to take daily multi vitamin
Increase protein to 80 - 120 grms daily
Take 50 mg of zinc in the morning and again in the afternoon - do NOT take zinc with calcium it will decrease calcium absorption
Take 1 tablet of B vitamin Biotin daily

Also in combination with the following supplements these have been suggested to help slow the rate of hair loss .

Zinc Chelate 15 mg daily
Copper Chelate 1 mg daily
Silica 20 mg daily
Vitamin c 2000 mg daily
Flaxseed oil 15 cc daily
Vitamin A 5000 Iu daily

My doctor did tell me to pick one from the suggested list and combine it with the Thinning list , I take the zinc since there is a lot more research supporting it help with hair loss .

I hope this helps you , you can purchase all of these vitamins over the counter at your local drugstore .... And remember it will grow back !!

I lost over 65% of my hair 3 months post op right through to 10 months post op, I took Biotin 6 months before surgery, took my vitamins, used Nioxin hair products, it just kept falling out, I have been asked by strangers if I am a cancer patient because my hair is so thin. I saw a specialist about this condition which is completely normal as others have said to your post. They said there is really nothing you can do to prevent hair loss, but all you can do is implement products to help stimulate new healthy regrowth. I look at it like this, your losing weight which is why you did this, hair will grow back so it is a little sacrifice you have to endure temporarily for having better health :)
