Vacation--do I pack my scale?

I'm presurgery so that means I don't know anything about this to give a good opinion.

Just an interesting tidbit -  I was so surprised in reading Al Roker's new book that he now takes his scale with him wherever he goes after he gained back 40 lbs after his bypass surgery.  But thinking about how much he has to travel that it makes sense..

Not having his scale with him didn't cause the regain, eating the wrong stuff did.

As long as we eat right in the times that we are away, we KNOW the scale is going to be just fine. I certainly don't take my scale anywhere when I go away and don't ever plan to.

Leave it at home.  If you need to weigh in, do it there the first morning and then just know it is accurate for the week you are there. It is just gravity anyway right?  Do not let the scale define you.  You will know if you are eating on plan or not, the scale does not tell you that.

“Not many of us are living at our best.  We linger in the lowlands because we are afraid to climb the mountains.  The steepness and ruggedness dismay us, and so we stay in the misty valleys and do not learn the mystery of the hills.  We do not know what we lose in our self indulgence.  What glory awaits us if only we had the courage for the mountain climb.  What blessing we should find if only we would move to the uplands of God.?  JRM

I have mixed feelings on this and at your stage......my first thought is leave it......

But than...... I don't think it's an obsession..... I would prefer to think of it as a higher level of commitment .......

You might not be ready to take the training wheels off quite yet......

Just a thought.....

I say leave it at home; but then again I weight once a month. My head could not handle the ups and downs of weighing often.

I will freely admit to being a scale junkie.  We're not always friends, but even on vacation I find the input to be useful.  I ordered myself a small, lightweight travel scale that goes in my suitcase when I'm traveling most of the time, especially when I'm away from home for a week or more.
