Surgery date scheduled! (LONG)

I started this process in July 2012 by attending the required seminar.  And now the time has come....surgery is scheduled for 4/25.  WOO HOO!!!

I had a comprehensive pre-op program: Seminar, physical, pysch eval, 6 week Behavior Modification class, monthly group meetings, individual pysch appts (with my personal pysch and the bariatric pysch) and monthly NUT appts.  Whew!  But I did it and stuck to program.  Did I lose a lot of weight pre-op so far? Nope.  And honestly, I kick myself for it. However (that's just a fancy 'but'!), I've cut out caffeine, white carbs, no drinking before/during/after meals, cut out chocolate (my addiction), cut out soda and changed my work schedule to accommodate a morning workout/walking program (because I know when I get home at night I won't do it).

I still have 6 weeks until surgery (and LOTS of pre-admission appts - holy carp!) so I'm going to buckle down even more.   I'm lucky that I do not have a 2 week pre-op diet.  Just clear liquids the day before surgery.   But I've had colonoscopies before so I know a light diet the week before chugging down that nasty a$$ drink will make things soooo much easier.

So that's the scoop.  I still can't believe the date is nearing.   I'm not nervous or excited.  I'm just ready.  I know they say you shouldn't put  your life on hold until you reach that 'thing' you want (weight, job, family, material object), but having been overweight (and SMO since my 20s) my ENTIRE life I did put a part of my life on hold.  But conversely, just because you get that 'thing' , your life will not be perfect or magically cured.  Years of therapy has taught me that.

I'm ready to fight the good fight, seek out help when I need it ( and recognize when I need it), surround myself with like-minded souls and just be in the present moment.  Sounds easy, right?

Thank you to all of you for sharing your insight and experiences.  It has prepped me better than you can imagine.

Peace!

Thanks, Alison. You've been a source of inspiration to me, especially with how athletic you've become. That's on my short list of goals.

Thanks, Julia. When I make my way back to France (and in my size 10 jeans atop the Eiffel Tower), I'll give you a ring. We'll plan a weekend of shopping!!

Shopping is better in NY or Milan than Paris. There are so many other things we can do in Paris so yes, definitely count me in!!! I am excited for you!!!
