I am now 4 months post op. About a month ago my hair started to break and fall out of my head.

I wasn't worried because everyone said it's only temporary. It's been a month now. Anyone know

when it stops? I have been taking Biotin to help new hair grow but it's too soon to see,,, I think,, or I hope.

I have very long hair so I can see and feel the thinning of it, it scares me. Thanks

Mine started at month 3 and Im now 6 months and still have some hair fall, but not nearly as bad as months 4-5. From what I have read on here, it varies from person to person but normally seems about 3-6 months.

I estimate that I have lost about 30% of my total volume. BUT....has anyone other than m noticed?? Nope!

I just stopped washing it every day as dirty hair always looks thicker. I wa**** no more than twice a week and use a dry shampoo and wear it tied up in the days in between.

It's not as bad as you think it will be. You won't go bald

I hear it usually starts around 3 months and can continue up to 8 months. I am just waiting for mine to start I also use Nioxin shampoo, conditioner and treatment it helps with thinning hair but it is little on pricey side.

Mine started to really fall out this week. I used to have very thick hair, but I can tell it's thinning out. I'm actually contemplating cutting my hair really short until the new growth starts. I have to wash my hair every other day because I will get sore spots and bruises from having oily, itchy scalp. It's something I knew was going to happen, so I mentally prepared myself for it. All I can say is that it WILL start to grow back.

I noticed it was the worst at 3 - 4 months and cut my hair off.  I am 8 months now and it has already stopped and my hair dresser said that I have a ton of new healthy hair coming in.  I will probably grow it out again even though I kind of enjoy the short sassy hair!

I have always gotten 80 -100g of protein a day and taken Celebrate Multi Vitamins (has Biotin in it).

My hair didn't completely stop shedding until my weight loss stopped at 13 months post op. Im post meno tho ,-)  I have long hair too..so drains, seein it all over only 'looked' worse because of the length.

The breakage stage doesn't start until your ~7months-9mos out. After regrowth has made its appearance.

Your hair 'should be' comin out at the ROOT by ~3-4 months out.

ALL HORMONAL!!  a menses aged gal NOT supplementing with right kind of IRON post VSG   ...makes it worse

your a post menopausal woman/ man with low testosterone ....makes it worse

thyroid, adrenal, PCOS metabolic/hormonal issues..........makes it worse

Puttin out too much cortisol  / agitated by stress........makes it worse

nutritional deficiencies....LOW protein, Omega 3s, Vitamin D3, zinc, silica, selenium, copper ...kindling on the fire

medications... too numerous to mention...actigall/ursodiol, anti-depressants (^^cortisol!) more common ones, ...more kindling

Biotin doesn't do nuthin tho sorry! ..your nails may look nice tho ,-) a WASTE of time and money... .~7 month mark regrowth stages its aok..."I think" it made my hair more shiny, retainin natural oils so much better.

....didn't know then what I know NOW!    A timeline on what to expect...

Beside Biotin I bought moisterizing shampoo and conditioner from Regis (Designline) from Hairmasters, it seems to have helped.

It's not breaking. It died in the 1 month around surgery but didn't fall out then. Now as new hair finally is growing, it's pushing the dead hair out. The hair growth cycle is about 3 months so the dead stuff should stop falling out in about 3 months or so.

If you have really long hair, cutting it helps a LOT.

If it keeps falling out after 3 months, then that's a nutritional deficiency and needs to be looked at. But otherwise it's just normal Telogen effluvium.

Also, with the vitamins we take, my hair grew back in much nicer. In fact, for some reason, it grew in with a lot less gray!

Mine started at 5 months and is still continuing. My daughter is my hairdresser and she said she does not see visible thinning at this time. Said Biotin, prenatal vitamins and Bosley shampoo would help. I don't want to do prenatal vitamins due to size and also had a friend who used them and got abnormally high cholesterol and had to stop taking.
