How often do you see a NUT?

I see some people talking about advice their NUT gives them as if it's an ongoing relationship.

I saw a NUT once, as required by my insurance company to get approved. Since then the "official" nutritional info I got was from the COE hospital when I was there (and the materials they gave me to take home) and my surgeon, who followed up with blood labs at six months and everything looked great so no further advice beyond continue what I'm doing.

Those of you who have ongoing appts with your NUT:  Is this part of your surgeon's team? Is it required by your insurance or something your surgeon requires? Or just offers?  Is the expense covered by your surgeon's fees as part of a package or is each appt charged separate?

I'm just curious how often some people are getting advice from their NUTs and why some get more support than others. (I'm not complaining about my own situation since I have liked my surgeon's advice and have also used what I learn from the vets here, and looking at some of the NUT advice I read, I'm just as glad not to have to deal with it, since what I'm doing has worked for me).

I see nuts all the time. I just look at my friends. :P

Now that the smartassery is out of the way this morning, I saw my NUT a few times before surgery, once afterwards, and he shows up to all of our support group meetings. I LOVE my NUT. He's a guy that won't bull**** you, and I appreciate that. I haven't seen him since our last appointment, but he has kind of an open door policy. If at any point, I have questions or just want to make sure I am doing ok, I can go in and see him.

Not all NUTS are created equal. (OMG I read that with a perverted mind, I apologize....maybe.) I say if you're happy with your situation and things are going well for you, just keep to it. :)

Your NUT is evidently part of your surgeon's "team?" That's great, when they are on the same page.  I can see why that would be a good situation.

I see my NUT once a month, along with the Fitness Trainer. It was all included with my surgery. They also have a counselor but those appts cost per visit. Puget Sound Surgical Center in WA. is amazing. I could go see my NUT 3 X's per week if I felt it was necessary, with no additional charge.

I see the NUT every month for a year.  There was a charge involved that was not covered by insurance.  Also included in the fee was a fitness evaluation.  She's able to answer questions and concerns and makes sure I'm staying on track.  It's a very enjoyable part of the process for me.

I only saw a NUT before the surgery and then nothing!  There does not seem to be a lot of after care in my program, so I rely on these boards.

I see my NUT every 6 weeks. She weighs me, does this neat body calculations to asses my total fat, muscle, water mass, BMI and can even tell if I am dehydrated or not. She checks over my food journal and gives me suggestions.  I love going!

Saw one unrelated to surgery team or surgeon way before, just for nutritional advice etc and have not seen one since surgery. Doing just fine without.

Our program includes an RD that is available to us via person appointments, phone, email and she regularly attends the San Jose group meetings. She is also going to be available to us in an online group.

It's not mandatory after surgery, but it sure is helpful during WL than again as you transfer into maintenance. She is on staff from our surgeon so there isn't the conflicts I read about here on OH.

Do I think it's worth it....... a huge yes. Does everybody need it..... probably not. I think it is really effective with just staying connected to food and eating as it pertains to long term weight control and nutrition.

It is a valuable resource which I try and take advantage of because it is available......
