*** Comments/concerns regarding Goal Weight**
I have seen a great deal of discussion on OH recently about setting goal weight and how to arrive at that *magical* number. My concern is that I am 5'5 150 pounds and still plugging away after 13 months from surgery to reach MY goal of 130 lbs (started at 290 lbs).
I am in NO WAY putting others down for reaching their "goal" weight 8-9 months outUNTIL I see their "goal" weight" which is often times still considered overweight or even obese given their height.
I know I will catch ALOT of slack for this but hey, I too could have said "I reached my goal 9 months out", IF I wanted to still be considered clinically overweight or obese.
Now befoew everyone stars attacking me for putting this out there please consider that if you are offended arr you one of the people who are happy with still be overweight and or/obese?
I know EVERYONE does this for different reasons, given health, vanity, etc...
Just my .02 cents.
Normal BMI is between 18-25. If someone starts at 45 BMI and gets it down to 25 BMI, that is quite an accomplishment.
Most surgeons will tell you that 60% of excess weight is considered successful. Of course, that would not be within a normal BMI.
Goals are pretty much a personal thing but most everyone knows they will live longer the lower their BMI. Your BMI is below a 25 and would be considered a success in anyone's book.
Good job.

My surgeons goal is 20lbs more than the top of my goal range for myself. I beat that last month. Once I get to my goal, I may lower it or raise it. The bottom line is.... It's up to me.
I can agree that it seems counter productive to stop short when this sleeve makes it possible to succeed.
My goal would still put me at overweight...but what people here lose sight of is that BMI is only one measure. If I end up at goal and have a normal body fat percentage well that's really more important. Body composition is important and so is how big your waist is. Any doctor or nutritionist you talk to will agree. Who cares how fast people got to their goal or even what it is. The point is that they are healthier and happier and doing what's right for them. This isn't a race and if I wanted to compare or be competitive about it. Well, I myself and many others have lost way more than most ever will. You do you! Let people do them! Who cares.
I set my goal at overweight because it's something that seemed impossible at the time. It can always be changed. It's about where I feel happy and what my providers feel is healthy for me.
I took the goal weight my doctor gave me as a minimum. I am right at 6 foot, and he told me my goal weight would be 190 pounds. My personal goal is to maintain a weight of 175 - 180. In my mind I see the goal weight they gave me as something they can call successful so I do not turn around and complain that I did not loose enough weight through their services. I will be happy if I only reach their goal but I like to challenge everything.

It is what you are comfortable with. Some folks I've met are technically overweight, but they are built differently. Heck, people that are the same size and weight that I am now look different - take a look at mybodygallery.com for an eye opener in that department.
I started at 375. My doctor's goal was 250. He pushed me for a personal goal and I tossed out 175. When I got there, I decided to go for 150, so I'm working towards that now. Who knows where I'll want to go after that, if I make it :)
Bottom line? Personal decision plays into it a lot. Being skinny with our ****** up metabolism is hard for some, if you're older, it's harder, etc etc. It's about your personal comfort level.
Having said THAT, I always make mini-goals. I've had at least 100 of them. Lose 20 pounds, lose my son's weight, lose my husband's weight, lose 100 even, lose my son plus my daughter, etc etc. I find a reason every five pounds or so to celebrate my journey.
