Water Weight is Amazing to Me and my first real 5K

This morning I got on the scale and weighed 233.7 (up 2 lbs from my low this week). I've been really bad with drinking water lately. Not sure why. This morning I ran a 5k. I drank a protein shake, a bottle of water, and a protein bar. After I got home from running the 5k I got on the scale and I weighed 228.5. Over 5 lbs sweated off. I know I am dehydrated as I did not drink anything after the race. Amazing to me. I guess the moral of the story is to not worry so much what the scale says every day, just use it as a periodic measure to make sure you are headed in the right direction.

Incidentally, I finished in 35:55 and was 22nd in my age group. I beat out a 70 year old man who could barely walk by a nose. He passed me twice during the race. I couldn't let him win. I think I saw someone in flip flops pass me too.

But finished, it isn't about have fast you run the race as long as you are on the journey and achieving new goals all the time. I am 10 days pre surgery and am excited about continuing my journey.

Keith you are so funny!  Seriously though, 35 minutes is nothing to thumb your nose at!  You should be so proud!  If it had been a large race you certainly would have found yourself in the middle of the pack.  And look how far you have come...just awesome!  Keep up the great work!

Hey, you finished! That's how you gotta look at it! A year ago this wouldn't have even been a possibility, would it? I think it's awesome that you did it! Me, I can't run (congenital joint issues), so I'm envious of all y'all who can do it! It sounds like so much fun.

As for the water weight, well, very long topic and you already know the ways around retaining water, so just get back to sucking it down. It will help.

Now you know it's not all bull**** when us women talk abou****er retention. It's INSANE. My weight will swing around 5-7 pounds sometimes. It's weird.

What an awesome accomplishment!

Y'know...if you really think about the scale...it tells us how much we weigh. Think abt that...how HEAVY we are. Why should we care how HEAVY...how much our body weighs? Take a gallon of water in each hand and stand on the scale. This is how HEAVY you and the two jugs are. Who cares??? We shouldn't!! How's our ability to MOVE? Ability to BREATH AND MOVE at the same time? Muscle strength? Ability to carry on a fufilling life? Healthy lab values that reflect the health our body is in?

I don't know if this makes sense...but I think about it all the time. If I eat nothing but pickles and Deli meat and V8 for a whole day...do you think the scale will go up...or down? Damn sodium!! Has nothing to do with FAT. We are so brain washed by the damn scale.

Just my 2.

Great Job today!!!

Good on you for finishing your first real 5k! I'm hoping by this time next year I'll have one under my belt. You are inspiring!
