Swimming

Does anyone know how long after VSG til one can swim? Just curious. Mine is on Tuesday.

I would make sure you ask your doctor.  I know I was allowed to take a shower right away but it might not be good for you to soak in the pool right after surgery until your incisions are healed.  I know someone that had plastic surgery and he has had a lot of problems and the exercise he did was swimming and he still can't swim.  Our incisions are smaller and heal pretty quickly if we take care of ourselves in most cases.  I would think it will probably be at least 2-3 weeks.

My surgeon said no less than 6 weeks. I cheated and walked around in the water to just about my hips but I was desperate. Ask your surgeon.

I called my Dr. and asked about our Hot Tub and he said 3 weeks.

My surgeon said 6 weeks. Thats about how long it takes for incisions to fully heal and its not worth the risk of getting an infection in if they are not fully healed.

I had my 1 month post op appointment this week and I can swim now. My incisions were completely healed on the outside no scabbing left.  Super excited the pool was calling my name.

I was told to wait six weeks.  Water aerobics is my favorite form of exercise, so it was hard to wait, but I did.  It is heaven to be back in the pool.

I was told to wait a month.
