High BMI and VSG, your thoughts and experiences please.

You may want to cruise over to the board for folks with high BMIs to get more input.  People over there have had all the surgery types and can fill you in on how it's worked for them.

Can large amounts be lost with the VSG?  Yup.  But no one here can tell you whether it's the best choice for you.  Best of luck in making your decision!

I had the sleeve surgery about 6 weeks ago and weighed 385  pounds when I started the process. I had the surgery laparoscopically, but I was told I had to lose 50 pounds before surgery to make room for them to work.  I followed the pre-surgery diet fastidiously,and I am so glad I did as it gave me a good boost on my way. 

There is a "BMI over 50 forum" on this  website where you can get more opinions on both surgeries. 

My reasons for choosing the sleeve were similar to yours -- the sleeve is a simpler surgery as it does not reroute the intestines.  I also did not like the idea of mal-absorption and possible vitamin deficiencies.  And the thought of dumping syndrome was not something I wanted to experience.  I know you can get dumping with VSG, but its less common.

I wish you well on your journey. I've lost about 85 pounds so far, and I feel so much better.  My energy is increasing, the pain in my back and knees is nearly gone, and I am more mobile than I've been in years.
