Cup or scale

Is it better to use cup measurements or weigh on a food scale? I am guessing the scale will give too much volume.

Liquids: cup. Everything else I use my scale and usually use the metric measurements because they are more precise.

i use scale for everything, less dishes.  jsut put your plate, bowl, etc on the scale and tare to zero and add your stuff.  I dont find that volume is very consistent with a lot of things (yogurt from bulk, cereal, fruit, etc)

yep, I use a scale for meats and firm food and measuring cup for things like cottage cheese or mashed cauliflower.

Measuring cup for liquids and scale for all else.  I always use the grams settings on my scale.  If I get a certain liquid thing I have used the scale if the nutritional label says something like 1 cup (185 grams).  In other words if there is a gram weight on the nutrition label then I do have a tendency to use the scale even if it is a liquid.  I feel like it's more accurate than eye balling volume to a line on a cup.

Besides that if the amount looks too much I can take some away and then do a simple division of what the new amount weighs in grams divided by the amount listed as the serving size.  Whatever decimal number I get I can then put that information into myfitnesspal.com and track my food and liquid intake more precisely.  Of course I tend to be a perfectionist and have been known on occasion to have what I refer to as my "Monk" moments ... lol.

I do mostly scale because its easy to track on MFP but it is kind of counter intuitive to me because your stomach doesn't have a built in scale. It works based on volume so if I could measure everything by cup, half and quarter and so on, I would. I try to convert weight to volume also to understand what I could comfortably fit in. I also don't have a portable scale so when I don't eat at home it is good to be able to measure by volume coz u can always get a cup anywhere.
