Anyone found a good chewable Calcium supplement?
I first used Bariatric Advantage cherry lozenge calcium citrate, but eventually I stopped taking them because I felt as if I was inhaling some of the powder when I tried to chew them. I then had a brief flirtation with petite pills that one has to swallow, but that played havoc with my timing, as I could only take them during liquid intake rather than any ol' time. Finally I tried Unjury Opurity chewable lozenge calcium citrate and have done well with that, with no plans to switch to a different product.
The soft, chewy calciums contain more calories than I want to consume and also read more to me like candy than I'm comfortable with, so I won't use that particular type.
For the first three months I used the Opurity brand and did OK with those but had a tart cherry flavor I think. Either way wasn't that impressed with those. Then I tried a Vitacost brand name chewable version that I also did not care much for.
Then I started cheating a little bit. I bought a generic version of Citrical which is a tablet and not chewable. I get these as they are cheaper than the chewables. I was worried about not getting a chewable but then decided that crushing these into a powder should be fine. At first I started crushing these between a teaspoon and a tablespoon. This got a little messy so I thought about things and came up with a cleaner and easier solution. I have a Calphalon garlic press. This is all metal with metal spikes that are meant to push the garlic through the holes. I put two tablets in the press and give it a little squeeze to break the tablets and then tap the handles back and forth several times until the pills are crushed and totally pushed through the little holes. In the morning I crush two tablet into my protein shake and at night two go into my oatmeal (after cooking).

I bought one and it was inexpensive and it didn't work well at all. It might work with smaller pills but with the Citrical pills which are quite big as I didn't buy the petities the plastic parts of the pill crusher did no more than break the pill into big chuncks and it was a lot of effort to get to that point.
I love the Opurity Cal Citrate! It's orange flavored. I don't chew them because I end up with a wad of powder in my throat so I just suck on them and they dissolve nicely. I enjoy them. They are about 300 mg each so you'd need 4-6 a day, depending on your requirement. They have a 90 day supply in the bottle with 4 pills per day.
