Question about stool softeners (Colace...).  Do you take them everyday?  Long term? I started taking them last week.  I've just been doing one a day.  Thinking I need to up it to 2x p/day.  No problem needing to go, but it's all sinkers!

Yes, I get plenty of water.  Adding occasional 1/2 Quest bar for some fiber.   I eat some veg, but not enough to make a difference.  I'm get a minimum of 80 gr protein p/day.

Thx!

Ive always taken 4/day - 2 in the am and 2 in the pm. Now im taking a rx laxative, so im not taking the colace anymore, but definitely take another one if youre still having problems. My doctor said the stool softenes are fine to take long term as long as it's not a stimulant laxative.

I am not sure that I would take two a day, unless your stool is really hard and difficult to get out. A very odd side effect of to much colace is sadly constipation and it has other side effects. Have you thought of sennokot s which has both senna and colace in it, you could even try some psyllium and see if that helps for the whole fiber thing.

I take Miralax every other day and it has made a huge difference. I haven't had that experience of feeling like i was trying to push out a baby through mybooty.

Is it difficult for you to get it out or is it that it just sinks to the bottom? Mine sinks. Is that bad?

Seriously.. this is our conversation? LOL

Lmfao!!! I understand exactly what you mean about pushing a baby through your booty. About 10 days after surgery I had the worst experience of my life. I swear it hurt more than labor, at least than I had an epidural & some pain meds. I was in tears in the bathroom, the thought crossed my mind to call an ambulance because I was in so much pain. Now how embarrassing would that have been?? Lol.. I can laugh about it now but at the time it was no laughing matter.
I need to start taking Mirilax. Did you start off taking it daily?

LOL! All i needed was for that to happen once.  I couldn't face that again. I did start taking Miralax daily but then i was too soft. I then started taking it every other day.  I think I am going to try every third day soon.  I just don't want to push my luck!

Thank you for inquiring about this because I was going to ask the same question after a night I had last night.

I never want to experience that again!

I currently don't take anything, but would like to know what works for others? I have a list from my doctors office of things to take but I'd like to be steered in the right direction with some advice from my fellow VSGers

Miralax  works great and is not considered a true laxative and is not addictive.  I tried colace and at first it worked great but then it didn't .  I think miralax is a god send!  I know several people take it everyday, I think you just have to find what works.
