I know I am only 2 and a half months out and try not to judge BUT

I went out to dinner with some friends yesterday.  A friend of a friend came out. I had never met her before. Before we ate, she mentioned her tiny tummy. Turned out she had the sleeve done 6 months ago.

When we sat down, she ordered a frozen margarita.  And then ordered a sample appeitizer  with another girl to share. It was HUGE add full of very little protein and mostly friend food.  She ate a few chicken wings, fried calamari, a corner of a quesadilla, a mini taco and an empanada.  I was SHOCKED by how much she could eat.  Sipping on her margarita all the while.

I on the other hand, had grilled flank steak and at my estimated 2 ounces and was done.  I know she is 4 months further out than me but: a: i could not imagine eating that much at 6 months out, and b: i could not imagine those foods being what I choose.

She said she has lost almost 70lbs.  Part of me is surprised she could have lost that much with her food choices. She said she eats EVERYTHING, just smaller portions.  I also wonder how much more she could have lost had she made other choices.

It was just an eye opener for me.  Reminded me that everyday, I have a choice about what I put in my mouth and how much I eat.  It made me really proud of the way I have been going about my weight loss.

I am coming up on seven months out.  Now I can eat more volume, BUT my choices are nothing like your friend of a friend. When I go out to eat i usually get plain meat and veggies, or a grillled meat salad, eat half the meat and some salad.  Sounds like she thinks she can just rely on restriction, that will work for a while, but not long term. I avoid breading like the plague

You've got it right,  Restriction will get some initial weight off, but you have to eat clean and avoid empty calories.  We need everything we eat to be nutritious to get as much bang for our buck with our little tummy.

You are going down the right path!

She may be following a different path, and it sounds like it's working for her.  I know moderation is a four letter word around here, but some people can do it.  And everyone's not in a race to get to the finish line.  She may eat like this all the time, or it may have been a special occasion.  Drinking while she ate allowed her to get more food down.

It would have raised my eyebrows too, but I keep reminding myself that I am not the food police for the world - hard as it is sometimes not to be!

I agree with emelar - I couldn't eat much at 6 months out but now I might choose to eat exactly like the woman described because I am at goal and I can.

I have always eaten "everything" and it worked for me.

This is how she eats all the time. I asked her what her diet is like. She said she eats everything she ate before, just smaller. She was surprised at my food choice and offered me some of here. When I said I didn't eat carbs, she didn't get why.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

You are doing it the right way...the other girl is setting herself for future failure.  If you aren't willing to make a lifestyle change, the sleeve will only help you for so long.

I agree with you. Thanks for being an example of the road I have chosen to follow being super successful and that I can do it, because you (and many others) have carved out the path and shown yhe way!

The first 6 months, many of us can eat anything just in smaller portions and still lose. That is part of the "honeymoon" period when everything is rosy. What she will likely see happen is down the road further, this strategy will backfire on her and she will have to learn then, what she needed to learn in the beginning.

I have found that when eating things,I can eat WAY more of anything and everything, and when I eat strictly dense protein I am limited like I should be.Drinking with food also makes it soup in her sleeve and she can fit a lot more in.

I really hope she finds her way and reaches whatever goals she has for herself! I just know it could not work for me!

Also we don't know how often she can eat out so it may be her treat.  At two months out it all seems so easy but we got here because of bad food, bad choices and love of crap.   that's a lot to disappear in 6 months.  Perfection is hard to come by for some, so is the idea that eating so much less is not going to net you your results.  It's counterintuitive.  I think some people learn differently and later, everyone's journey s different and needs to be.

Also drinking with food, or i should say sipping allows more to go down and if i'm sitting over food for hours drinking and talking i certainly can eat more, never getting full because it's more relaxed eating.

While her choices were fried they were protein heavy, wings calamari, cheese.

The whole reason we weigh and cut ourselves off is that the further out we are the more we can eat.  You should post about a night out at 6 months.  It's a different world.
