I do vaguely remember that video........
The problem with it is that it really only told half the story.......
It did not illustrate how the pyloric valve works and how it would effect the food flow.
I think that video was much more overall accurate to the flow of food for the RNY........ if memory serves me correctly......

I see people posting that video all the time on FB....I ALWAYS correct them and say "this is more for RNY patients!" As sleevers we HAVE a functioning pylorus.....RNYers do not...so they CAN flush food through their pouch!
I found the video. My doctor told me it still washes out just not as fast. Like an RNY.
True...... only if it's a slider food (in general) and the pyloric valve is open....
The pyloric valve when open is about the diameter of a dime.....
When the pyloric valve is closed the opening is about the diameter of the head of a ballpoint pen......and not much of anything gets through....
So, here is an example of where the video doesn't work for us VSGers......
- Eat 2oz. of a dense protein like chicken breast...... a normally functioning pyloric valve will close to hold that food in the stomach/sleeve for pre digestion with stomach acids before releasing it to the small intestine. This can take between 30-90 minutes.
Drink after you have a closed pyloric valve and that protein blocking the tiny hole...... and fluids are just gonna go up ........
**** on a higher level to be more accurate...... fluids do promote the pyloric valve to open faster...... but it's minimal.
So, there is more to it.... those are some basics and where the video is not telling the whole story for us......

This is good to know. When I drink while eating it makes my stomach up set or to full. Than it starts to back up. I am so use to not drinking while I eat that I think it is normal. I am going to ask my surgeon why he tells his people not to drink 30 minutes before or after a meal. thanks for the response.
I actually drink right up to the first bite of food...... empty sleeve.... open pyloric...... goes right through.....
30 minutes after eating would be way to soon for me to resume drinking after a dense protein......it's usually an hour or more..... and going slow to see if I feel any push back.....
For me..... and I think I'm pretty normal when it comes to this subject....... 30 minutes before and after would not be correct.
