Too early to set goals?

Hi, everyone! I have completed the informational class required at my hospital and am now scheduled to meet with the surgeon on Nov 11th. Because I don't work, I have time to fit in any required procedures before the surgery. I'm hoping for no later than January for the surgery.

My question is, is now too early to start planning for my future? My husband and I have planned a trip around the world for sometime in 2015 as a celebration. I just feel so excited. Has anyone else started planning for things before they even had the surgery or hit goal?

Thanks!

Autumn

I planned a walking vacation to Italy before my surgery.  I love to walk and hike, but it was something I couldn't do anymore because of my weight.  I'm walking like crazy now, with my trip as a great motivator for me.  It's a trip just for me...no one else is invited.

Oh my gosh!  I think planning is what motivates me to go through this whole process.  Go for it!  I want to fly in a plane, ride a roller coaster, play tennis, ice skate, dance (in public), wear a "little black dress", etc, etc.  I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but that's just me.  Best of luck on your surgery!!!

It is never too early to set goals. Dream and dream big and then work to make those dreams your reality. You can do it. I think the fact that you're planning so far out is a good sign. Having this surgery is like being reborn and getting a second chance. After, its up to us to piece together and rebuild our lives into what we want them to be. So, in short, no...not too early...never. Dream, plan and know, and i mean really KNOW that you'll meet these goals in the future. I just look forward to hearing your post down the line when you get there. Its an amazing feeling and i can't even describe it. Best wishes.

Thanks, everybody! I feel so amazing just reading these comments. The thought of wearing a swimsuit without fear, riding in a plane without a seatbelt extender, walking along the beach without getting tired out...these are the things that keep me going. I have never been more ready to change my life! I'm so glad I have a group like this to come to for support. I will definitely keep you all posted throughout this amazing journey.

Have a blessed, amazing day, everyone!

Every one of your dreams - big and small - are possible. You will reap so many rewards, many that you can't envision yet. And often, it's the little ones that matter the most to us

You probably got the answers you needed already, but just in case no one said it, if your surgery is in January 2014 it's highly probable you can achieve your goal by 2015 with room to spare. That of course assumes the basic mental commitment to the process.

Yes, plan those goals!!! There is even a section on your My Journey section to make a list of your goals. I am proud to say that just 3 months after my surgery I have already fulfilled 3 of my goals! Goals inspire us during the slow weeks and help us to keep on task. Good luck in your journey!
